Day 7 Berlin – Tauentzienstrasse and Kurfürstendamm

I walked along the Tauentzienstraße and Kurfürstendamm and into shops, including the famous KaDeWe (pronounced Ca De Ve), which was the main shopping centre in West Berlin. I found some cool boots (that I didn’t buy as I couldn’t ever see me wearing them at home), and the Gedächtniskirche.

The Kurfürstendamm (colloquially Ku’damm) is one of the most famous avenues in Berlin. This very broad, long boulevard is sometimes considered the Champs-Élysées of Berlin, lined as it is with shops, houses, hotels and restaurants. The Kurfürstendamm was the main shopping street in West Berlin when the city was divided.

The Gedächtniskirche (Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church) is located in Berlin on the Kurfürstendamm in the centre of the Breitscheidplatz. The original church on the site was built in the 1890s. It was badly damaged in a bombing raid in 1943.



Tauentzienstraße is a major shopping street in the western inner city of Berlin, Germany, with a length of about 500 m (1,600 ft).
