everyone can tell you how amazing Berlin is. Everyone can talk about the amazing architecture, the parks, the courtyards, the streets, the history, the nightlife. I'm not everyone 😱
very loyal to my decision to travel in difficult (challenging?) conditions I have decided to head to Berlin, again, in the coldest winter in 20 years. I remember having a previous and a wiser decision: never again to spend summer in Israel, never again winter in Europe. I don't know what happened to this decision and how I found myself in Europe in winter time. Short memory is one answer. Simply arrogance (“there is nothing I can't do. But mountains.”) would be the other.
I have to admit it: -10 Celsius are below my comfort zone. My comfort zone is somewhere 25 degrees above.. the first thing I did was to walk into one of those amazing second hand shops and invest 15 euro in keeping myself warm. It worked. (but my nose, I'm afraid I might lose it any day now). I can see how amazing and impressive Berlin is. But I would definitely want to know whats under the snow - is this paved? Is it grass? I have
a tree everyone ignores.
it's standing near the WALL. everyone takes pictures of the wall and not him.. no idea...
this weather issue won't allow me to do what I like the most - sit at a street corner and see what's going on. It's just too cold to do that... my second option is to sit in a coffee shop and see what's going on. This one is also not possible due to the lousy coffee they drink here.
my first day and second coffee in Berlin was in "Aroma" (due to some weird coincidence). Aroma is an Israeli coffee company with great icecoffee and lousy espresso, I see them more as an liquid ice-cream place then coffee place. I would never touch the espresso there but here in Berlin, ice-coffee was not an option .
P: what do you think of the coffee?
M: undrinkable
P: I thought it's good. but, I'm English...
M: if the temperatures won't kill me, the coffee will!
But, lucky me I found myself a new way to sit and see what's going on - buses!! they are warm, they move, I get to see everything and everyone... cool!!! the fact that they move (with me in them) cuts my people viewing into snapshots I can't control. it's
a new fun for me... usually I'm the one fixed in and the people move around.. now I'm the one moving and the people and their stories are just there...
There are also some good things as always.. I finally found some meaning to my passionate for colors! being the only person I know who thinks it's normal to wear an orange coat, dark blue scarf, red trousers, turquoise shoes, and probably a purple or turquoise top, I know why I do it!! I want my looks to go with how I feel and I feel like an ice cream. I wish I was more chocolate flavor though...
the second good thing with this weather is that it improves my street eating abilities (not that they needed any improving) because I make sure I will buy my food only from those poor people standing freezing in the streets, like me. AKA my diet is: würstchen (the great German hotdogs) and gluewine (cooked wine with spices. A lot better then tea!!)... and what a diet it is!!!! just love it!! (o.k. o.k. Have to admit - I have rented a room in a flat and I have a kitchen so
sometimes I am happy
I wasn't born 300 years ago. I would have probably have this hair style. I'm very close to doing so.... my dinners are mainly vegetables... one needs to balance)
don't get it wrong. I am enjoying it.
