Berlin was a facinating place to stay - for the main reason that so many events of recent historical significance have taken place there...war doesn't feel like a distant memory there. Our campsite was great, in a woodland next to Krossinsee, on the outskirts of Berlin we had Red squirrels and woodpeckers for neighbours, oh and some Germans too. Our first day sightseeing was ridiculously hot, mid 30s, and the kids weren't used to it. Hence playing in fountains and copious ice creams! The DDR museum was great for the kids - they got to test drive a Trabi - the monuments to the Murdered Jews of Europe and the fallen Soviet Soldiers were really moving.
