This huge hotel was not in the center of Berchtesgaden 6 years ago when last we came to town. It's probably out of our price range but its location is ideal. Maybe on a future visit.

At the time I was thrilled that all the stores seemed to be closed whenever we had time in a town or city. Looking back now, however, I kind of regret not having time to look for something non-touristy or non-food item to bring back home. Not one of these get-ups but maybe a decent quality leather or animal hide belt or wallet perhaps. A nice switchblade knife would've tempted me. As long as I remembered not to put it in my carry-on bag.

Tempting, but Not for Us Tonight

Despite the space heaters and lambskin seat covers and blankets it was still mighty cold at 9:30 pm. Proof of that was the fact that nobody else was out here. A bartender eagerly ran out to us when it looked like we might stop. We just wanted to take pictures. Ha-ha-ha. We drove back to the pension and bed shortly after this. The tour leader/driver needs his 8 hours of sleep.
