Our hotel for the next few days. This was a Bavarian Palace pf Rococo style and is now a beautifully restored hotel
We said our fond farewells to Bruno and Gertrud and headed off into inknown territory by train to Regensburg. The train was 20 minutes late! (yes, true) which put out the whole time table for us. It meant waiting an hour longer in Munich. The trip was fairly non de script with nice rolling farms all the way.

We had a short walk from the station in Regensberg to our hotel, the Maximillian at the end of a park and on the edge of the Old Town. What convenience. It was already dark so we could not see much but from our very spacious room on the 3rd floor we look out over old roofs to spires and the twin towers of the cathedral. This town is supposed to have the most churches in a small area in Europe. It is also one of the most beautiful. Tomorrow will be interesting exploring.

And so, to the main reason for our visit. The Christmas Markets. There are four here and we visited one this night. It was truly lovely. It is in the grounds of the St Emmeran Castle, a huge palace surrounding an equally large courtyard. The little rustic

houses for each stall lined the paths in and all through the courtyard. Amongst this were burning torches, brazier fires to keep warm by, and covered tables to relax and eat at. Added to that were all the Christmas lights and decorations. The stalls here had only hand crafts. Authentic ones of a high quality. There were many food stalls with tradtional foods. Of course bratwurst and gluh wein galour! but there were new things to try too, like crepes with nutella ans bananas. Yum! We were on the lookout for gifts for the family but nothing suitable for a suitcase yet.

It was a good start to this part of the holiday despite the dull, cold weather.
