Our hotel's address is Alpenhotel Pfaffenwinkel. Doesn't that just sound good. Admittedly we had walked 28 km in just under 7 hours and had 10 hours of rain (well I added 3 because it dripped from the trees when we were in the forrest!), and we were wet through so maybe not in a position to be unbiased but Pieting is not really a pretty place. Bigger than we are used to but significantly grungier too. Our hotel is good but there's more an industrial feel to this place and one we are unaccustomed to. The entire walk was in rain today. We managed to sleep OK with the windows closed to keep out the pong from the surrounding barns. The Gastehaus owner was surprised that we had not had breakfast in his restaurant and in fact had included the extra cost of breakfast on our bill when we went to pay on checking out. We were hoping that after yesterdays ‘Umleitung’s’we might actually be able to drive the route we had come here to do. The weather in the western sky looked a bit threatening although it was still warm. The countryside is very attractive with low rolling hills, villages atop hills here and there, usually with a church at the highest point in the village and of course now a patchwork of green and yellow fields from the maturing summer crops.
