for Friday Febr. 27 we spent the day with Petra on a walking tour of Passau. She lives in a village near Passau. Highlights of our walking tour included the Cathedral of St. Stephen, which has one of the largest pipe organs in the world; the confluence of the Danube and Inn and Ilz rivers (it is called the Three Rivers City--but very different from Pittsburg!); the pilgrimage church of Mariahilf, with its long passageway for the penitent, from the riverlevel up the hill. Later crossed in Austria for café and strudel in a restaurant overlooking the entire region. We had dinner with Petra's family at a restaurant specializing in deer meat--has its own herd--but the fish was better!
