July 27, 2018. Passau, Germany. We docked on the Danube, just upstream from the Inn and Ilz Rivers and across from the hill where the Veste Oberhaus, a 13th century hilltop fortress sits. Our guided foot tour of the old town ended at the beautiful Baroque St. Stephan's Cathedral which boasts the largest cathedral organ in Europe. We were treated to a marvelous mid-day recital there. In the afternoon we were on our own so Simon and I took a taxi across the river and up the hill to the old fortress. Inside is a history and art museum, the Oberhausmuseum, and outside are breathtaking views of the city and rivers below; green wooded hills and meadows in the distance. Back in the old town we visited Stadtpfarrkirche St. Paul, a beautiful old church with a Baroque interior, then wandered the narrow winding streets and pedestrian alley/stairways past charming shops and cafes. A really lovely place.
