Berlin Brandenburg Gate was the place to be on NYE 2010, but we didn't adventure out with the locals in the cold. We did see plenty of fireworks though as the local buy great big bags of them and fire them off all day. We spent the day in Potsdam, a town not far from Berlin known famously the Potsdam Conference that was held at Cecilienhof Palace. We visited the palace and got to have a good look at those historic rooms where Churchill then Atlee, Truman and Stalin met. We caught a bus over 'The Bridge of Spies' and through the Sanssouci Park, the Palace built for Frederik II in the mid 1700's. The grounds are reknowned but alas covered in snow, so in the bus we stayed.
New year's day we spent at Berlin Zoo which apparently has the largest number of species of any zoo. We had a good day particularly after we found the animals, mostly housed indoors to keep warm. It was quite different to what we are used to, but we did get to see the animals close up and mostly they seemed happy.
Yesterday we caught the train to Nuremburg, to have
a look at this Baravian town before heading into Munich tomorrow. Nuremburg is so picturesque and was a very important town particularly between about the 1100 to 1600's. We have had a good day looking around the castle and the beautiful churches situated here.
Happy New Year to all!

After looking at all those great pictures of yours I feel like putting the house heating system on! No-one seems to have got around to saying this to you yet, so I'm going to - "HAP HAP HAPPY NEW YEARRR!" (methinks, better late than never) Bruce
