Munich
We arrived in Munich early, after a not so good sleep we were disappointed to find out that Munich has no showers (Tony not having washed for 48 hours was in need of one greatly!!!!). So we did what all self respecting backpacker would do and got out the wet ones!!!!!
Feeling like tramps brushing our teeth next to people having number 2s we soon emerged slightly cleaner and less smelly ready to sample some of the Bavarian sights and beer halls!!!
It did not take us too long to have a look around, Munich is quite a small city. We took in a burst river (too much rain for this time of year), a church, a Jewish museum, a market and by the time we had done all this we were rather thirsty and conveniently stumbled upon the HB beer hall, happy we were not the only ones needing a beer at 11 o’clock in the morning we ordered a big and a small beer, my god the steins were MASSIVE!!!!! They also have lock ups here for locals who want to keep their nice big metal steins at the beer hall!!!! Fancy hey!!!!
We
spent the day pottering around and drinking beer oh and a few wines. We had a wonderful night in the Hofbraubaus (HB) beer hall, on our table were two lovely German people (the man looked like Albert Einstein) and a group of girls on a hen do. These girls were German and dressed in their traditional gear (we would have fitted in perfectly in our gear Hannah got us for our Birmingham leaving do!!!!)
Unfortunately our train to Berlin was a night train, so we sadly left the beer hall to find our way back to the station in the dark and drunk!!!! Thanks to the beer we slept all the way to Berlin!!!!
Berlin
We arrived early in Berlin so we dashed to our hostel (City Hostel 50 Euros) to shower and dump our stuff. The room was lovely, massive and with a balcony, shame we only had one night there!!!!!
We then headed out for a long day of sightseeing.
We took in all the sights, Brandenburg Gate, Wall Victims Memorial, Holocaust Memorial, Bebelplatz (book burning memorial) although this was covered by a tent for Berlin fashion week boooo and of course we
took in the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie and tried to find Hitler’s Bunker (we think it has been built over with flats!!!!)
After a whole day sightseeing without a beer break we were in great need of a cold one so we headed out of town to a cool bar called Weinerei Cafe which is styled like your granny's living room and sold large glasses of yummy wine for 2 Euros. Apparently on a Friday and Saturday night you buy your wine glass for 1 euro and don't pay for your wine, instead at the end of the night you give what you think you have had!!!!! Shame we were not there then!!!!
We ended our long day in Berlin in a Mexican by our hostel too tired to sample the night life. We will def be back though, totally loved Berlin and Germany!!!!
Hamburg
The next day we caught the bus to Hamburg to meet up with Keaney and Leila. As we have already been to Hamburg to visit these two lovely people we headed straight back to theirs and to their local for lunch.
We spent the rest of the day planning the
next stage for our trip, Keaney had only go as far as finding a port in Germany the week before while he was planning the next stage for us he he he.
Thanks guys for putting us up for the night and Leila thanks so much for your Rose and yummy chilli!!!!!!!
