Matt at the Fountain
This is the big fountain right across the street from our hotel. As you can see, we had gorgeous weather for exploring! So, the Army sent Matt to Munich for a few days and, since I'm not working yet, I thought I'd make the 3 1/2 hour drive down and spend a few days with him while he wasn't doing Army stuff. I left on Sunday evening (October 14th) and got in just after midnight on the 15th. It took me a little bit longer than the expected 3 1/2 hours because of all of the construction on the Autobahn. Yes, there's construction here too, and, when there is, the speed limit goes from nonexistant to 60 km/hr (about 36 mph) so it tacks quite a bit of extra time onto your trip.
So, in the morning we got up and went exploring. This was actually Matt's second trip to Munich for work so he'd already seen all the touristy stuff but it was my first trip so we walked around anyways. We went to the Hard Rock, where I was able to pick up my Hard Rock Munich shirt and we went to the Hofbrauhaus, which is a pretty famous brewery/beer hall in Munich. We also visited the hall on the second floor which is one of the first meeting places
The Glockenspiel
The next picture is a closeup but this is the Rathaus Glockenspiel (Rathaus means Town Hall). of the National Socialist German Workers Party (the Nazi Party) presided over by Hitler.
Munich is a pretty impressive city with a mix of old, typical German buildings and newer, more modern buildings. We really only had the one day to walk around and Matt had to work in the evening to prepare for their departure the next day so, needless to say, this was just a taste of Munich for me.
(Matt's in Italy this week for work and I didn't have a chance to the get the pictures off his camera before he left. I'll add them when he gets back next week.)
