It is another 'The Three Bears, Baby Bear Day'. It is "Just Right" - not too hot, not too cold, but just right for biking. Our day started with buying fresh bread rolls at the bakery then heading off - the wrong way up the river instead of down. The signage for the first 10km wasn't particularly wonderful and we had to have our wits about us looking for the Innweg arrows. At one spot we headed off too far and encountered a woman we had seen before! She recognised us and pointed in the right direction.
Our day was sometimes along the river but mostly inland and through farms and villages again. We called in at Neuotting across the river to check it out as this village and the one at Altotting a bit further on are renowned for pilgrammage and have many churches to this one or that one. It would have been nice to have visited the further one as it was worth visiting but we didn't fancy doing a 60+km day. Neuotting had a huge cathedral to somebody (we didn't check). It was the height of the pillars inside that was amazing. I wonder how they
built those churches. The frescoes and paintings inside were amazing as was the huge organ. You can see how people of the time would have been in awe of God with the building, the icons and symbolism shown to honour Him.
Neuotting also was noteworthy to us for what we reckon is a witches coven. At the bakery/café we reckon we saw the Grand Witch (or whatever they are called). The old lady had black hair hanging down, no teeth, and looked like a witch. All she needed was a broom stick. With her was a man and woman who were the opposite - he, all swanky in white trousers and pointy shoes, she, in incredibly high heels and tight trousers. Outside the café sat a table of 3 people. He had a long black coat and wore long dreads. One woman had long multi coloured hair and the other had a head full of long skinny multi coloured plaits. Next to them was a huge fat whale of a man shovelling food into his mouth. Yuk. And to top it off another woman inside had one side of her head shaved and the rest was spiky and black.
That was one strange amalgamation of people. I wonder if these were witches with a role to offset all the religious churches in the area??? Only kidding. But, it was worth noting. We have seem some incredibly fat people on our journey and a lot of smokers. But, we know that the obesity rate here is less than at home but you would wonder if that was for real.
Back on track we zoomed along until we came across a lovely picnic area by a swimming lake. That was our lunch stop where we took our time and enjoyed the view. The temperature was perfect and there was no wind. However, that was soon to end as we saw ominous clouds brewing behind us. We thought we'd be able to outrun it before we arrived in Kirchdorf. We didn't. We got hopelessly soaked and arrived dripping. Despite this, it was another day of cycling through lovely countryside which we are enjoying very much
Our hotel room is large and very nice so we soon stripped off and washed our clothes. As if we hadn't had enough exercise after 55km we then did a walk around the town which
does not having anything of note to mention.
