Fun at the good-bye, meatFun at the good-bye, meatFun at the good-bye, meat

Who wants to lose!!!!!
A recent trip to a "karneval" (translation: carnival) led to some very interesting spottings of things I found hilarious. Not that you will, of course. Meh.

The carnival was much more exciting than that introduction.

Apparently the origin of the word "carnival" comes from "meat, good-bye", which is an awesome idea - a going-away party for meat. I imagine a few carrots and celeries sitting around a table comforting each other while a hamburger puts on a big backpack at the door and waves to his friends, sad to leave them behind, but looking forward to the trip ahead.

The carnival in Augsburg, Bayern is called the Plaerrer, which, believe it or not, translates as "drunken yelling", or something along those lines. Remarkably appropriate.

Take a look at some pics!

We can see some friends of mine very excited in front of the "win a stuffed Star Wars monster game". It is somewhat unfortunate that "los" in German is ticket, and if you want many of them, well, you are buying "lose". Undeterred by the apparent horrid honesty of the moustached carny, my friend did win in fact four stuffed Star Wars monsters.

Last year they advertised, "We have real zombies!"
house declares boldly - "1 lebender Geist", which, to you English-speakers, turns out to mean "One living ghost!" The sign amazes me on many levels - it seems ghosts really exist, they have one, and it is alive, which goes against everything I have ever been told about ghosts.
(Note to reader: it was a guy in a bedsheet.)

Anyone hungry for some ice cream? Go and visit the "Eis Mohr", or "Ice Cream N---", though I think maybe it is slightly less offensive than that. We are going to leave this one alone.

Lastly we have the "mandelbrunnerei", or "Almond Burnery." I don't give a darn that burnery isn't a real word, I am buying my burnt nuts from them.
