Hi all. It has fallen upon me (Dan) to write today’s informative, enthralling and otherwise witty blog entry. I know that you are all breathlessly waiting to read what happened in Legoland today. Well let me put an end to your suffering and baited breath. Today we, that is Monique and I, toddled of to one of the Legolands, this one happened to be in Deutschland. I have always been a fan of Lego and when I was somewhat younger I decided that I needed to go to Legoland. That did not happen as Lego did not recognise the vast importance of shifting a Legoland to New Brighton. Nevertheless, 20 years on I finally made it. Anyway, on with the blog. Legoland Germany was great fun. It had all the rides of any decent theme park: ... read more

Saturday: Today we spent the day in Ulm. Ulm is the birthplace of Albert Einstein, and is home to the worlds tallest church steeple. We climbed the 160 meters skyward to the top of the Ulmer Munster which is almost 700 years old. Because of all the Turkish people in Germany, there are as many Doner restaurants as there are Sushi Restaurants in Vancouver. So we ate donair for lunch… again. I’ve had it probably 10 times in the last few weeks! Walked some of the wall in Ulm then back to Gusenstadt where we are staying currently. Upon our return we had a BBQ which consisted of 4 salads and 6 different meats: Bratwurst, Kasewurst (meat with cheese in the middle), ribs, chicken breast, pork chops, and steak! Sunday: We started the day by going ... read more

So I left off in texel, We spent an entire day touring that island. Which was interesting. There was lots to see on such a small island and it was a shame we only had one day to see it all. The day we left we drove across a 38 km dike. 25 years ago the dutch built it across one of their seas, and pumped out the water from behind it creating a new province. The lowest land is over 15m below sea level. After a long day driving we stopped in the german city of Wesel, where i had schnitzel with bacon and eggs on top! The next day we drove to Köln, where we saw the enormous Kölner dom. Really really hot today, hit 35. Stopped for the night in Rechtenbach. Went to ... read more

July 30, 2008 We have now left Texel on a beautiful sunny morning with promises of being 30C today. The short ferry ride to Den Helder was scenic and very busy for the 10am crossing. No reservations are needed and you only pay when going the other direction. From there we found our way across the top part of Northern Holland and then down about half way of the Wadden Zee and then crossed a dike of 30km with water on both sides with a draw bridge on either end to let the tall boats and barges thru. We had to stop on the east end as the bridge was open to let a sailboat with a tall mast thru. From there we travelled along the west side of and through a new province that was ... read more

On the 3rd day, we went to explore Nuremberg. After a morning stroll in Nuremberg, we took a train to Ulm, where we visited the Ulm cathedral (with the tallest church spire in the world) and the Bread Museum. (We went there just because my housemate Carine loves bread...) In the evening, we took a train to Munich, where we met our friends Elsa and Wanqin, who went to Salzburg the previous day and would be joining us for the next few days. We went to downtown Munich but disappointingly the Christmas market had already closed. Nevertheless, we had a good dinner at the Augustiner Bierhalle. (Wanqin and I shared a fantastic meat platter.) ... read more

So... Back in Ulm... where it just kept getting colder and colder. On Sunday, Doris and Hugo (Christine's parents) came up from Oberstaufen to visit the Weihnachtsmarkts. I don't think that we had ventured outside all day, so come 3pm when we left the house... Ho-ly craaaaaa-puh! it was so cold. so very cold! I think it was about -6 degrees. I have never been that cold... and it was so windy! Walking around at the markets I stopped feeling everything, and then I regained feeling in my feet, but only if you can call searing pain beyond anything else simply a feeling. When we wandering into the heated city centre I slipped off my shoes to let my feet defrost (coz my shoes were still frozen solid) which I think freaked out Doris :) And ... read more

Okay... So I have been slack since my last entry. Or rather I have been too busy sightseeing and studying Germany to even get online at all - yeah, that's right - the second option!! Meg... I could not be more ashamed of you. Kel I give you minimal respect for at least knowing me well enough to know the Google and IMDB would hold the answer - to the the rest of you I award no respect and may god have mercy on your souls... (for a double or nothing chance at more respect - tell me what Adam Sandler movie that last line was a reference to... I'll give you a hint - the initials are B and M, and it's about a guy who returns to school as an adult... :P) The Dragon ... read more

Okay... I don't have any photos to go along with this blog... alas I am not wanting to be a complete Japanese tourist and take my camera everywhere... I will work on that though. Last Tuesday Warren and I were invited by his friend Ann-maree (whose name I can't spell obviously, thus I shall refer to her by her pseudonym Rosie) to be guests on her radio show - she runs a show every fortnight called 'Oz it Up!' on Ulm Free Radio (a radio station that has no endorsement advertising at all - pretty cool). It was pretty fun, we played form Architecture in Helsinki, talked politics a little bit, discussed Missy Higgins' sexuality... as EVERYONE is doing nowadays. I may go back in two weeks... if I do, I'll let you all know as ... read more

...on the 14th of October, 1944, General Field marshal Erwin Rommel sat under a tree, drank some poison, and died. And all I got was this lousy photo... Friday, was a very windy day here. Warren and I had planned to climb the Muenster tower, but my shoes have been seriously hurting my foot and my ankle felt like someone was poking a knife into it, so I wussed out and chose not to climb the 700 steps. Not yet anyway. It probably would have been too windy anyway... (that's right wuss... make your excuses) Instead we drove up to Michaelsburg to this old fort that the army owns (a few guys hiding out under a table surrounded by mattresses and pillows... you know what I'm talking about) that is kinda built into the side of ... read more

Okay... so shit loads of pictures here... awesome, awesome day! I would just like to begin with an apology for my appalling spelling and grammar throughout the last couple of blogs... I noticed that I had used they're instead of their at one point. I blame the German course I am doing (yes, german, not english as I wrote in my first blog... idiot - thanks Anne :P) see I'm learning so much new stuff that it is pushing all the old stuff out - remember when I took that home beer making course and I forgot how to drive? Annnywho... When Saturday finally started (for me, waking up hungover at Rosie's and eating potatoes - and then waiting for Warren's call... for Warren, waking up feeling better from his cold, but without much of a ... read more
