Oh dear. Just discovered that according to our last blog, from June 28th
, we are still wandering round France heading homewards but never quite getting there.
I am happy to report we did make it home after a one night stop at our favourite aire at Le Crotoy (where we had a prime seaview spot so were extremely happy). We even managed to get to England via the Chunnel between closures because of migrants and then ferry worker fires.
Once home we’ve had a very pleasant 2 months of English summer including a 3 day camping trip in Stratford with sister Liz and cousin Denise, as we’ve done now for the last 3 years.
We’ve seen all our children (5) and grandchildren (11 including Bob’s 2 greats).
We’ve enjoyed our newly worked back garden which has delighted us with a magnificent display of poppies. We’ve also been entertained by our lovely hedgehog family (who visit the garden nightly for the mealy worms I put out for them); by hundreds of visiting garden birds who also get well fed including the not so welcome noisy Starlings who I address as Charlie Boys (no
idea why !), and by Jane’s super new puppy, Monty who came for a day’s puppy sitting. Also by Izzy and George who visited for a few days and love our ‘new’ garden as it’s very child friendly, even after rain – and we’ve had quite a bit of that.
In between times Bob has been doing what he does to keep everything in the garden and house tidy and in working order while I’ve been making glass. Lots of it.
Very happy to report that my numb hand is now mainly ‘un-numb’ and I am expecting it to be nearly restored to normal by the time we get home again so I’ll be able to do some outside glass events and fairs as I had to cancel all those I had planned for the summer,
And now, as I type this, we are back in France again. On a very nice campsite in Dieppe.
Given the problems in Calais with the would be migrants, but brought to a head by the ferry workers actions in breaking through the Chunnel security, it would have been very foolish to use Calais again so
we travelled across from Newhaven to Dieppe instead. A nice easy journey involving setting out at 5am and being settled here on the campsite 11 hours later, just nicely in time for a swim in the heated indoor pool.
No problem finding our way here. The useless Satnav we tried out on the June trip has gone back and been replaced by an up to date and perfect Tomtom Go 500. The HTC Desire 510 phone which melted (quite fortunately as to be honest I didn’t like it one little bit) has been replaced by a superb Vodofone Smart Prime 6.
So here we are back in France. Heading south to the sunshine with a few exciting steps planned, more on those later. The sun shone on us, with a gorgeous blue sky, all the way across on the 4 hour ferry trip and we sat on the deck and warmed ourselves, looking forward to a return to summer as England is already a little too autumnal.
Our campsite is (ACSI) Vitamin in Dieppe with wifi, a great pool, good facilities and a bar so 8/10.
