It is a big day today - yes the long planned arrival of Clarke to join our travels for 9 days. After our issues with driving in the heart of Lyon yesterday and all the streets that the GPS say you can drive down but in realty you can't, it was discussed (Rose said) that we would take the underground to the main train station to pick up Clarke. How hard could this be, we worked out what train line we need, how many stops to go, what train to change to etc just would have paid to make sure we purchased the correct ticket (we still have 3 unused Night Train Tickets for Lyon if any one is in need of them). The tickets wouldn't validate on the gates and even the locals didn't know why. We where very lucky that the ticket inspector where on the return train not the earlier train. Next issue we located the train platform and where waiting right where Clarke's carriage stopped - only problem no Clarke as she was seating at the other end of the train. Finally located in the arrival area and the adventure begins. Starting with bubbles, french bread, cheese
and pate lunch back at the apartment feel listing to band playing in the square below the apartment, yes we had put on a free concert for her arrival.
Lyon put on massive party on this day (did they know Clarkie was in town or was it the summer solstice), bands playing everywhere all afternoon and evening, thousands of people out walking the street, eating and drinking. Thank goodness that we book a table for dinner at a lovely little restaurant (Le Bouchon des Filles) and then on the walk home stop to watch the orchestrate playing at the town hall, the only down side the party in the bars below our apartment went to 4am (welcome to city living).
