While it is lovely to visit the South of France and especially Provence at any time of the year this visit was in the late spring—May and June which is a particularly lovely time to enjoy its pleasures without the crowds or the heat of the summer months. I Wanda

We have been cruising on our Nichloson 40 pilot house sloop "I Wanda" since the summer of 1993. In the early years we cruised from Maine to the Bahamas with our teenagers and now we visit them by boat. In 2003 we crossed the Atlantic via Bermuda and the Azores, and spent 3 years cruisng the Med. Kitties have nearly always accompanied us.... full info

Boats in Sanary

These lovely boats are moored in downtown Sanary right next to the market.

Pan Flute

As we were leaving the market we could hear lovely flute music. We came around the corner and here he was!

24 parking lot view

In Sanary there is a parking lot right on the Med. This was our view and we pined a moment to have OUR sailboat anchored right there!

I rather like this poster advertising mother's day shopping in Toulon. Fits MY image of ME as Mom, right?

I found this one in Hyeres. What can I say? Moms come in all shapes and ages!

Etam Top

The giant street poster says that the top is 14.90 euros. It does not mention the bottom. Is it like the mastercard experience "priceless" or what?

Port in Toulon

The fishing boat harbor in Toulon is also right dontown.

Fishing Nets

The nets are piled high and checked for repairs.

Net Security

This lovely dog was keeping watch on the nets.

Pasteries

This was not a fancy pastery shop, just a place for a nice cup of coffee and a little something to go with it.

Latte and Free WiFi

Honestly, I never eat at McDonald's unless i am traveling. Because they seem to universally offer free WiFi it becomes a place to go when I simply HAVE to connect. The latte was 1.80 euro or about $2.30. Would have been about $1.20 for an espresso.

Old Town Hyeres

The entrance into the oldest part of Hyeres sill has the old gate.

Old Town Street

That's Christian and we are visiting at a time when no one else is about .

Provencal Dresses

This shop sells many "touristy" items including little dresses in the colorful Procencal fabric. I love them.,

Epicerie

Small grocery stores can still be found in most dontown areas and this one in old Hyeres looked inviting.

Savons de Marseilles

Marseilles is famous for excellent soap. I have used it for years for hand washing clothing. some is made with oilive oil and is easy on the hands.

Biscuiterie

I was charmed by the fact that there is s hop that sells only cookies and crackers. buscuits in europe are VERY different than those in America!

Sainte Baume Area

You can see the winding road we took as we drove around the Massif de la Ste Baume near Toulon. I have never seen it so green.

Genet

I think this is forsythia. It is lovely and smells sweet and was everywhere in Provence in late May.

La Pentcote

This pink flower is named for the thime of year it blooms-- near Pentacoste.
