After yesterday I felt I need to allow myself to sleep in a while this morning. Sadly sleeping in for me these days means getting up at 8:30! I took my time getting ready for the day then set out to find some breakfast. Because I didn’t leave my hotel until 11, it was just about lunch time here so I just grabbed a chocolate croissant and walked through St Paul de Vence. A beautiful, old, walled in town that’s heaven for an artist like me. There are little studios and galleries around every corner, and through just about every door. It is so inspirational to see a place like this. I didn’t find any pottery studios, but maybe I wasn’t looking in the right places, cause there was pottery being sold in just about every store. I was so amazed by my surroundings, I just took it all in. All I wanted to do today was wander, so that’s what I did. There seemed to be so many little details to see, so much art, so much beauty! There were many paintings that I wanted to purchase, but the prices were a bit too high for me. I’ll just have
to keep them etched in my mind, and maybe someday try to create something that I think is just as beautiful.
After a few hours of wandering I went back to the Place du Grand Jardin and found another café to eat lunch. I had Perrier water, red wine, and croque monsieur, which is a delicious grilled ham and cheese sandwich. I also had a café au lait since I didn’t have one with breakfast. I was tired today, so I had planned on going back to my hotel at some point to rest, and the weather decided when that would be for me. It started to sprinkle a little so I stopped in a Patisserie/candy/chocolate shop and bought some macaroons and then stopped at the grocery store and bought a couple of small bottles of wine. By the time I got back to my hotel is was pouring. I thought wine and macaroons were a great way to spend a rainy day in France. The colors and the flavors of the macaroons were incredible, and of course so was the wine! After a couple of hours I was going to head back out, but then it began to thunder
and lightening so I thought I better stay put for the time being. Another hour or so passed and I though I better find some dinner before it gets too late. I wanted to go to a café a saw this afternoon but as soon as I stepped outside it began to pour again, so I ran to the grocery store for a variety of cheeses, a baguette, and chocolate. It’s actually been nice to just relax and indulge this afternoon. I plan on going to Nice tomorrow and I know it will be a busy day, there is a lot to see in Nice!
Some people have asked for the names of my hotels, and if I’ve been using a train pass or not. I haven’t been posting the hotel names on purpose, at least while I’m staying there. Since I’m not there anymore…the Paris hotel was Etoile Park hotel, and the Villeneuve Lez Avignon hotel was Hotel de l’Atelier. They both have websites you can find if you just Google them. As for the train, I have not been using a pass. I bought each ticket individually because it worked out to be cheaper for me. If you
plan on coming to Europe and don’t have reservations anywhere and just plan on going wherever, whenever then a rail pass would probably be beneficial. I wanted to know my schedule before I got here, so that’s why I pre-purchased my tickets.
Ok, it’s time for sleep. I’m starting my day early tomorrow so I can see as much of Nice as possible…and if it rains then it’s the perfect day for museums!
