I JUST DID THE BEST TING EVER IN MY LIFE...i went hot air ballooning - and then my camera broke so i have very limited pics!
Bruges was so so very beautiful...it humbles you to think such gorgeous places exist -- and then annoys you that you have to spend your days working in concrete bohemouths
the difference between the belgians who speak dutch and those who speak french is pretty instantly recognisable...the french speaking ones are wankers...i got bollocked on the train in brussels by a short frenchie chick because, obviously, it was so very my own fault that the train was busy...i just pretended that she could read minds and sent some awful images into her brain which she should have nightmares over for quite a while
but the dutchies are so so very nice! i said 'excuse me' to some randoms just to ask where the tram was and they didn't hear me, so i had to excuse myself a couple of times more...when they realised i was talking to them they apologised to me...wtf? so awesomeballs!
BALLOONING...omg it was so incredible...i thought we would be taken a field with 10 other balloons and souvenir shops, but this dude picks
us up in his truck and he has the balloon in a trailer in the back...he explained that in order to get to fly over Bruges we had to pick a take-off spot according to the wind...he eventually drives into someone's field (!!!) and we all help in setting up the balloon - unfolding it, straightening it, holding it up till it is filled with air - and then we all had to QUICKLY jump inside before it took off...it was so much fun
the ride itself was sublime...at first i was pretty scared to let go of the basket, but you get used to it in about 5 minutes - that's when i realised my camera had crapped itself...i managed to turn it on for a few pics but now it's just dead
landing was very "interesting"...you can't steer a hot air balloon, you can only guide it...and what looks serene up in the air is pretty fast when you are heading to earth and you've been told the ONLY way to stop and get out is for the basket to drag on the ground and hope that it will only tip sideways and not upside-down...so it did only tip sideways
- IN HOLLAND! we literally landed in holland...aahhhaaaa
the helpers with the car had been following us the entire time - we could see them on the roads trying to catch up, and they just drove into the field we had landed in (in holland!) and picked us up...we ended up at least an hour on the other side of bruges...then we packed up the balloon, had champagne and waffles, and were taken back to our hotels...it really was the best thing i've ever done (and i've jumped off the cliffs at Lima strapped to a guy with a parachute)
AMAZING...i totally recommend it
xxx
ps...i've been asked for pics of The Rod Stewart

I did hot air ballooning over Albuquerque in New Mexico and that was amazeballs too.. so serene up there and to be in the open air that high up... did u have to get up at the crack of dawn to do it? I did, that was the only drawback LOLi le
