Nous arrivee . Camping Nantes 5* Luxury. We are in the Pays de la Loire in Nantes according to Wiki. In our heads Nantes is still in Brittany , always was and always will be. Camping Nantes is open all year round and we received a very warm welcome both by reception and by the sunshine that rained upon us. The site is well spread out in a green oasis in the city. Trees everywhere providing much needed shade in the summer. Do you have a satellite dish for T.V I was asked . No that is something we thought to do without in Gabby and up to now have no missed it . However in a cold British summer we might think otherwise. On the site are large camping plots, chalets and cottages, cabana du ... read more

On the way just after 9am as had an early night last night, quite tired after very early start and long drive. The plan was to get through the dreaded city of Rouen, home of several incidents and a place to be avoided, and then take the country roads pretty well due south to Tuffe. We’ve done this journey once before and I had noted that it was a lovely drive. Things didn’t work out quite so well today as something went a bit amiss with the route as we left Rouen, which we had chosen to cross by motorway today. Instead of heading South West as I had expected we ended up South East and the Tomtom refused to direct us away from the busy and boring main roads to the pretty country routes. So ... read more

We are very sorry that we are so late with writing but bad Internet and running out of time are the problems. After leaving the Fam Kollaard in Holland we went towards Amiens as a first stop. We liked to visit the war graves we only see on Anzac day on TV but we now have the chance to look for ourselves. Was well worth it. We had a good drive and arrived late afternoon in Amiens. We did not know things were closed on Sunday and Monday. We found that out. We were told it only 20 minutes walk to town must be French for we took the car and were very happy we did. It was a lot further as 20 minutes. We found a place that would supply us with food and a ... read more

Well, it's been a while, hasn't it! We have been quite busy over the last few days, After leaving Metz we headed into Belgium to visit Musee Herge (the Tintin Museum) and had a great time looking around and learning more about his creator and his other works. We then visited the Tintin shop before we left and I found I was treated like royalty by the staff. Funny that - probably something to do with my ability to increase their profit margins this month!. Anyway, I fulfilled another dream, which was great. We then stayed in Lille for the night before continuing for a relatively short drive to Calais, visiting Dunkerque on the way. We stayed in Calais at a hotel complex at the entrance to the "Chunnel" and visited a huge shopping complex so ... read more

Up and off bright and early as we had a long way to go. Most things on Tandy were already tidied away as there had been a threat of rain and far better to fold the awning and chairs away dry than wet. We did have a little rain today but only in the morning and the further north we went the bluer the sky became even if chillier than it has been. Bob was kind to me and planned a drive which was only 1/3 on the motorway as he knows I fall asleep if I get bored when we’re driving and the back roads of France are far more interesting than the motorways. He took an interesting route to the motorway. Far more tortuous, narrow and windy than he had planned given the long ... read more

Brittany, here we are....and for now, it's fun with friends. Christophe, you'll have to wait my next entry! Huge smile! Today we are meeting Flora, who is just living few kilometers away in Nantes. It's a small world, Flora is a great friend of mine, from Congo! We left Tours early and stopped by Chinon on the way. We have a meeting for lunch right on the beach. Today for lunch, is mussels time again and way too much rose wine...and truly fun time seeing Flora again! No driving after such a lunch, so we hit the seaside town with a game of mini-golf! We are kids, we can be fun and share it with people around. La Baule hosts the longest beach in Europe, running all the way from Pornichet. So trust me, we walk, ... read more

Hurray and Hurrah. Woke this morning to the view of bright blue sky through the Tandy skylight and not a drop of rain has fallen on us all day. In fact I have managed to top up my tan a little. Out and about quite early. Kisbee the Scooter out of the garage and raring to go as it's not been anywhere since last September. We took the road to Noirmoutier en L'Ile along the narrow spit of land from the southern part of the island where our campsite is located. We have been to Noirmoutier before and I proved it by taking a photo of a rather attractive triangular shaped shop and found its duplicate , on the laptop, from our visit in September 2007 when we got back. Had a nice little stroll round ... read more

Woken with a start at 8.30 by sound of loud speakers at the campsite entrance. Looked out and there was a crowd of men just outside. Thought for a moment it might be one of the current strikes but pleased when we realised it was a boules tournament. Never seen so many men throwing to many little silver balls about. Obviously a major event in the region and it was all being taken very seriously. Today we were headed for the coast, in fact off the coast at Ile Noirmoutier. We've been to the island before but must be 10 years ago. We took the autoroute part of the way as needed to avoid both Angers and Nantes, neither of which are ideal cities for navigating through the centre in a 3.5 ton motorhome. At least ... read more

Driven through some heavy showers today and the fields along the way are sodden and bear witness to the amount of rain that has fallen in the past few days. Occasionally there were breaks in the cloud and we spotted some blue patches but not much sun around. My weather map tells me the best place in France for guaranteed sunshine at the moment is Corsica. Trying not to dwell on that. As I sit here in the Tandy the rain is going pitter patter on the roof. The worse part of 'camping' when it rains is not being able to get towels dry. My swimming towel was unpleasantly damp again when I used it after my swim in the pool. I really could do with a heated airing cupboard. Hopefully it will soon dry off ... read more

We arose this morning just at the right time to see the rather hauntingly rise of the sun from a low angle through the bare trees on the paddock across the road. It gave another aspect to the sight we see from our home in Tauranga where the sun rises over the sea. With another fine day ahead and over 300km of driving ahead of us we readied ourselves with a hearty breakfast. As yet though we haven’t been able to find the type of toasted muesli that we enjoy at home but we are still getting our fibre so that is good. The cottage has been a lovely home for us for 3 days with plenty of space and all the amenities we could want for and it would be a great location to come ... read more
