Everyone had a great night sleep, we’re all up and sitting around the patio table enjoying breakfast and listening to Kirsten give us todays agenda. She has today outlined, including bathroom breaks.
We’re all loaded in the car and ready to go. Stop, I need to go to the bathroom, Sorry.
Ok, now that I’m back into the car we’re off and heading to our first stop. Vertou, is having a market day, so we are stopping here first and getting some items for picnic lunch. We arrive quickly and are walking and enjoying the market. Me, I’m looking for the chicken man.
The market is surrounding the cathedral. Mass is going on inside, I slip in and listen to the music and readings. It’s meditating and after 15 minutes, I wander back outside looking for Kirsten, Bea and Omi.
I find them inspecting the fruits and vegetables. Bea is holding the bread and Omi has something in her bag and we meander back to the car. We off for Clisson, stop #2 is an Italian Festival. Leave it to Kirsten to find a fest. We pull in and drop Bea & Omi off close to the
festival and Kirsten and I go and park the car. We then work our way through the alleys and paths and find Bea & Omi.
About now I’m looking for a place to sit down and have a beer. Kirsten, Bea and Omi are checking out the festival. It’s ok, I’ve seen better and off I go looking for a beer. I round the corner and I run into this HUGE! barn right in the middle of the village. Tables set up, everyone sitting around them and enjoying you know what... BEER! Woo Hoo, now we’re talking. I find a table and plop down. Within seconds, the waitress comes up and I order myself a beer using my expert French.
Un Biere Plaire, the waitress looks at me and ask in perfect English... you want large or small. I shrug and say large please. So much for trying to blend in.
I’m half the way through my beer, enjoying watching people when Kirsten finds me. She sips on my beer and says they’re heading toward the castle. I ask when lunch is, that’s the next stop, ok. Kirsten walks away while I finish my beer and pay.
I catch up with everyone and we tour the castle and read about all the people who lived there. One guy got his head cut off, the queen made the son swear to avenge his dad’s death. Sounds like this is where Game of Thrones got its’s story from.
We’re back in the car and heading back to Vertou where they are having big picnic. You know like the Baptist do when they have lunch on the grounds after Sunday morning service.
It was packed! Kirsten squeezes the car into a parking space and we pile out and grab all our picnic stuff. We find a table and setup. There are local producer booths all around selling raw foods. You buy your food and local chefs are present to cook your food. Or, grills are set up and you can cook your own food. Kirsten brought meats, cheeses, bread and wine. She buys a couple of sausages and grills them on one of the many grills. We sit around for the next hour or so talking, relaxing and snacking on our food.
Around 4ish, we meander back to the car and head home. Everyone is ready
for a nap.
Around 6ish, Kirsten, Bea and Omi are in the kitchen busy fixing dinner. I’m trying to stay out of their way, all the while, opening a bottle of wine. I ask if they would like some and I get rousing YES, from everyone. That bottle is gone before dinner and we have another one while having a delicious dinner.
We play cards and I lose.
I retreat to my bed licking my wounds from the card game.
Good night
