Carcassone
The walls and turrets of la Cite 31st October
Trebe - Carcassone - Aurignac
Mum and I got up this morning and went for a slow jog/sprint/bowling run down the side of a canal. Trees lined the path and we saw a white heron fly off the canal. It’s amazing in France because you can camp in Aires de service for free and they seem to be all beautiful.
We drove 5 minutes into Carcassone. There are two cities within Carcassone - the old city, La Cite and the new. La Cite is on the top of a hill surrounded by walls and turrets. It has tiny cobbled streets and we could walk from one side to the other in 2 minutes. It also has a huge amount of tourists - we heard English, Italian, Spanish, German and French.
Mason, Dad and I went into the Haunted House. The first room we walked in and the room was pitch black. The ghost behind bars started to move toward us - the walls were moving in on us. The door opened and we all ran out. The next room was pitch black as well, it was flashing and you could see a blackened guy walking around. It felt like
Luchon
our sunday drive a cat walked past my leg. Things were patting you on the head. The next room there was bookshelves all around and a big clock, table and chairs. The clock started falling toward us and then there was a flash of light and they all went out. Two seconds later and they came back on and in the middle of the room was a guy dressed all in black. There were four French kids with us and they started screaming and running out the door. Dad and I were still looking at the clock and then I saw the guy and so we started running. When we ran off he turned and looked at us. We ran into the elevator, the door was just closing, Dad was talking us to be a bit tougher and just as he finished his sentence the guy with the black suit on jumped on Dad’s back, jumped off and ran back into the room leaving Dad yelling “What the heck”. We laughed and laughed. From then on we pushed Dad through all the doors first - even the French kids were helping us. One little French kid got jumped on too he didn’t know

the bread was nearly bigger than Blake any English except “Oh my god” and he kept repeating it. We had a fantastic time even though we were petrified. There were 17 rooms in the tour and you never knew what was coming next - it was great. Mum heard us yelling from down the street where she and Blake were having hot chocolates.
We drove to Nics place from Carcassone. It took about 2 ½ hours. Nic and I went straight down and played football.
1st November
Nic had a football tournament that we all went too. Mum went to a fete - only things that had been made by fire were there. Mum had a great day.
It was great to watch football but I’d rather be playing. The level is much the same at home. I reckon our red soxs team could have won the tournament. We didn’t get home until 7.00 o’clock. Nic’s team got third - he wore my boots and scored a penalty with them.
2nd November
Went for a Sunday drive to Luchon - had to drive through the snow to get there. Nic, Mason and I took the skim board out and found a hill. It was hard getting up the slippery slope but good fun coming down.
3rd November
Got up and went to a market in Sales du Salies or something like that. Dad gave us all 5 euros to buy our own lunch. Nic, Mason and I wasted most of our money. Grace and Blake fed more than themselves. We just bought stuff that looked good but it didn’t taste good. Grace and Blake tasted everything before they bought. It looked like they had a delicious lunch.
We sat in the sun, ate lunch and then went and played soccer. On the way home Dad dropped Nic, Mason and I off at the soccer pitch in Aurignac. The adults went home and said they’d come back and challenge us.
We lost the challenge. They cheated; they used dirty tactics, like deciding when ½ and full time were when they were ahead, red carding our players and using their bums to push us off the ball. We even had an audience that at times cheered and applauded. The score was 12 - 10. Mason's leg is better but not 100% because Mum ran around him and got a goal - so he can't be right.
Got to see lions, lionesses, a cub and a camel on the way home. The circus is in town.
We had a really cool time with Sally, Brian, Nic, Grace, Uncle Glen and Gran.
