Gday all
Catchup time again. At last we have a good connection (depends how many are back from dinner!) so I can catch up again.
So we left Nimes and headed north west for 200+ kms.
Mainly good roads but as we neared our destination in the Tarn Gorges region, the roads became very narrow. Some very tricky passing manouvres. Hotel in Myreius was OK but I slipped up as therte was no aircon.
We were able to leave our shuttered door open to help the ventilaion at night. After checking in, we had one abortive attempt at a local walk but the instructions were in Fronglais and we gave up after 90 mins of climbing and back tracked. Just as well we did in fact as for the next 3 hours there was one almight thunderstorm and we barely had enough wine in the room to cope! Anyay, we were quite high on the midi Pyrenees and the thunder was all around us.
Eventually cleared and we went strolling in the town again after dinner in the hotel.
Next day, bright start and then off to see the Milleu Bridge. Marvellous! Took
some finding to get on it as we had lousy instructions, but we achieved it with the help of the GPS on my phone. Voila!
After lunch we head back along the magnificent Tarn Gorge. Im saving the good piccies of that! Big day, lots of driving, but fun. Early night after a 3 course dinns. BTW, the storms blew out internet and phone connections.
Next morning we are off to the Dordogne region. We travel by the La Jonte Gorge and that too was magnificent. Dull driving (relatively) for the rest of the day and we hit our accom at Vitrac in Dordogne - home for 6 nights. Pleased for the choice. Nice country hotel with upgraded room and bathroom, lovely pool (the next 4 days are HOT!), and a great location.
Rest or the afternoon sussing out restaurants etc in the area and we are set. All looks good. Hot now but the aircon is the best we have had. Yes!!!
Found a takeout chicken place and had half a chook and chips and coleslaw on a table in the grounds of the hotel. Choice if red or white wine.... Start planning for tomorrow,
Wed 31st.
Early start as it is Hot today so we figure we can beat the heat and the crowds again. Chris has chosen the Domme walk. Domme is a medieval town high on a hill above the Dordogne (and visible from our hotel). We drive up there and after a bit of confrontation between the driver and the navigator, we find a car park - albeit not the one described in our book.
Now our walk is supposed to be 8/9 kms but it is in fact 12 kms. Not only that, having driven up the substantial hill, we proceed to walk back down again and up past the village for a birds eye view, then back down to it. At 33 deg, this is fun. In fairness, quite a bit of the walk was in beech and chestnut trees. Nice shade!
It was a magnificent walk and we followed it up with lunch by the Dordogne (and the myriad of bathers and canoes) then into the tocal town of Sarlat. This is a seriously good visit as the old town is magnificent. Most of the buidings faithfully preserved on the outside but now functional
on the inside.
Back to the hotel for an hour of so in the pool. This is some holiday!
Dinns and you are UTD!
Bye for now
Chris and Ian

Hello! It looks absolutely amazing! (For those that don\'t know I\'m referring to the bridge!) Sounds like some tough decisions around the rouge or the blanc! Looks like a 2013 vintage in the picnic table photo. Glad you\'re having fun!
