It was the job of the engineers to land in the first wave and clear the beach of any obstacles.

The memorial, along with the American Cemetery and Pointe du Hoc are American property given by the French government under two conditions. Make no profit and no military personel can be stationed here. The French have not forgot the American sacrifice to liberate their country.

This memorial to the 101st Airborne Easy Company is located where they destroyed 4 German cannons while be vastly outnumbered. Clever thinking by Major Dick Winters, led to the success of the mission.
