- Computer zei : Aankomst 14:40u, hoogte 250m, 28°, 125,1 km, verbruik 9,4 l /100km, gemiddeld 37 km/u, reisduur 3:18 uur.

The Pyrenees Our trip has moved onto France and into the Pyrenees. It is here I must have fallen asleep for 30 odd years as Ian has turned into one of the grey nomads following the well-trodden route of the beautiful villages of France. Yes my younger husband has become the Sunday driver, cap and all. Before leaving Australia he found a book on the beautiful villages of France and it is his mission to see them all…. We arrived in the area by train from Barcelona. The train trip was broken in 2 with the Spanish renef system taking us to Figueres and the French TGV the rest of the way. The Spanish system is good, the French is fast. You can feel the acceleration. Our only disappointment was that we only had 23 mins ... read more

We had a tearful goodbye at the Prades train station this morning. Words cannot describe how wonderful the Harper Family has been to us. The memories of laughter, fun, friendship and of course food is the best gift each of us will go home with. Nothing can replace the week we have had in Prades. I would give you the address so you can experience it for yourself but I think the Harpers are enjoying some downtime after from being Mr. & Mrs. Super Duper Host. We look forward to seeing them next year when we go to Merrimac Wisconsin. In the meantime I will be searching for some of Wisconsin's finest cheeses but not Wisconsin wine, I will leave that up to the French. ... read more

Our time in France is drawing to a close and tomorrow morning we board a train to Barcelona. We should be on the beach by 2 pm and enjoying sun, sand and sangria by 2:30 pm. We have eaten our way through the french market enjoying such favorites as fois gras, fromage, rillette de canard fume, pain au chocolate, savoyarde (my favorite) and of course the wine. It's such a different way of life with people meeting at the outside cafe at 9:00 am after going to the market and shopping for their daily goods and enjoying a wine or cafe au lait while chatting with friends. This is a culture I could get used to. Emma and Julia have a had an amazing time. They have not asked to go home once I think this ... read more

Girls maybe topless at the beach but pool side men are required to wear tight fitting James Bond like swimwear. Despite two weeks of warning, Jeff thought it was a set up until he arrived at the pool and saw the large sign with a X through a picture of traditional swim trunks. The Harper's kind offers of 2nd hand underwear, Cindy's bikini bottoms and even Harrison's (5 years old) Speedo was refused because he thought it was a set up for him to be embarrassed. Luckily at the pool they have a swimsuit vending machine with a wide range of Speedos available. They offer thong, traditional or boxer-like. Modest Jeff splurged and paid the extra 3 Euros for extra coverage and privacy, we were all thankful. ... read more

Crazy Day. 400 pound bulls running towards you with only a gate between you and the horns. It was so exciting that Jeff had to be part of it. The bulls charged down the street about 6 times with men on horses directing them away from the spectators. The girls and boys loved it. Jeff was brave and jumped in on the action. He escaped the bulls's horn by climbing up a french balcony with a camera in one hand and a snorting bull aiming for his bum. The running of the bulls took place in a small Catalan Village about 20 minutes from the Harper's home in Prades. It's an annual festival with bull running, human pyramid contests and a bull fight. We have opted to not attend the bull fight because they do slaughter ... read more

WOW! Topless Women at the Mediterranean Sea. That was my daughters life lesson today. I guess when in Rome................ After 5 days of depleting the Harper's fine wine collection we resorted to do what the locals do best. We filled up a plastic gas can of wine that cost a dollar per liter. Honestly cheap and yummy wine that takes the enamel right off my teeth. I am still drinking it now. We have been enjoying sunshine, french wine and well behaved children. The free range nudity of the Harper boys has made this a free spirited experience for all. I guess the best part is when we are having so much fun that we forget our, husband's, Dad's , friend's birthday. Tom left for home today and when we talked with him twice we did ... read more
