After breakfast we set off and were overtaken by 2 boats, which we followed through a series of locks every half a km or so. These locks could fit 3 boats in it so we all went in together.

We got to the la Peyruque lock at 12pm and only 2 could fit at a time so the 2 in front of us went ahead. By this point it was 12:15 and the locks shut between 12:30 and 1:30 for lunch so the lock keeper came along and told us to tie up and he’d be back after his lunch.

Consequently, our lunch stop was just before the la Peyruque lock.

The lock keeper didn’t open the lock until 2pm, so that slowed us down and after going through the lock, we cruised along and enjoyed the scenery.

We overshot our planned stop at Villepinte so we continued onto the Pont of Bram, where we are moored along with a lot of other boats. We arrived around 5pm so we walked into the village (about a 30 minute walk) and did some shopping and arrived back about 6:45pm. French shops shut around 7pm and it was still daylight so we had a drink whilst we recovered from the walk and then cooked a barbecue dinner on our top deck.

French locks are manned and automated so that makes it much easier but I would say on a boat this size, you definitely need several strong and able people to hold the ropes in the lock. Fun so far. Xo

Weather has been kind to us. Quite strenuous though and you definitely need 4 people with a boat this size. Pleased John is improving. Love to you both. Xo
