Paris is probably my favorite city in Europe. I have been there probably for 6 weeks total and each time I find something new. You could spend a week in the Louve alone! ... read more

this was the longest drive of the whole trip - 500 miles. man, we began to hate that damn bus. it was so frustrating watching T sound asleep all comfy in her corner while my big mongolian ass was trying to find a comfortable position. i couldn't decide which position was more comfortable: my knees against the chair in front of me, or my body twisted with my torso facing forward and my legs in the aisle. i didn't sleep much. big surprise. so we stopped in southern france and by this time, T & A were sick of european food. i mean, the food is good, but damn we wanted something different. so we decided to eat at burger king! i was excited to order: "one Royale with Cheese and one Le Big Mac". I ... read more

Its been a while so I figured you were all due another e-mail designed to update you on where I am. At precidely this moment I'm in Birmingham working out ways to avoid concentrating on reviewing some month end numbers......yep your part of my coffee break. Anyway, its been a really busy 7 weeks or since I been back. Every weekend I've pretty much had something on so finding time to sleep, let alone write e-mails has proven a little difficult. The weather here finally seems to have broken with an astounding top today in London of 15 deg........was all set to whip out the short sleeved shirts and make sure I had plenty of sunscreen on........funny how your definition of warm is altered......7 degrees = nice day, 15 = heatwave. So to update.....Paris.....ahhhh what can ... read more

Paris on a shoe-string 7th February - 9th February, 2003 Insert location on a shoestring. It’s a phase that’s been coined in many a guide book but often times most locations do not allow for such freedom to explore on limited funding - or lack of as the case may be. Having returned from a rather expensive three-week holiday in Australia in January, this early Valentines Day weekend trip to Paris was one in which Vicky & I needed to do rather cheaply. So much so that, we moved the trip to the weekend before Valentines Day in the hope that our costs in Paris may be lower than if we had gone the following weekend. Arriving at Charles de Gaulle airport on Friday (7th February 2003) afternoon, we managed to secure a bus tickets to ... read more

Sunday (Temp. 8deg. Rainy) All plans for everything failed today. Went for a walk down Rue de Rivoli at 9am, too early, everything shut. On way back bought 2 postcards & a fridge magnet. Had a coffee & hot chocolate & Rob had a smoke in a French cafe. Planned to go back out in evening to walk Champs Elysees & see lights, weather was revolting & people everywhere. Came back, had McDonald's, Rob bought an English paper for 4Euro ($8!) so desperate to read something other than Lonely Planet. Back to hotel cold & wet by 6pm. Feeling homesick and hungry.... read more

Saturday (Temp. 10deg. Overcast) Out at 9:30am. Long walking day! Walked to Saint Marie Madeleine, Place de la Concorde, crossed Pont de la Concorde, Musee Rodin, Musee de l'Armee in Hotel des Invalides, Eglise du Dome (Napolean I's tomb), Parc du Champ de Mars, Eiffel Tower, crossed Pont D'lena, Musee de la Marine, Arc de Triomphe, walked home. Ate at Quick (like McDonald's). In at 3:30pm. Went to go for a walk to see night lights at 7pm but it was raining. Back to room to drink beer & bourbon & practise our French, German & Italian while watching the winter sports world cup.... read more

Friday (Temp. 7deg. Overcast) Up at 7:30am. Breakfast in lobby downstairs, very nice. Walked to Louvre, used 3 day museum pass, saw Mona Lisa. Walked to Sainte Chapelle & Notre Dame. Went up the towers, great view, so overcast top of Eiffel Tower in clouds. Bought takeaway bread rolls for lunch & beer & Coke from little grocery store. Back to hotel for lunch & rest. Back out at 6pm for stroll around the block. Bought chips & chocolate biscuits at small shop. Back in at 6:45pm.... read more

Thursday (Temp. 7deg. Overcast) Got up 6:30am, last boring breakfast. Checked out 8:30am. Caught underground from Piccadilly Circus to Waterloo. Dropped tickets for Eurostar down escalator crack after check-in. Caught Eurostar to Paris 10:20am, arrived 2:20pm (1 hour ahead local time). Walked to hotel, nice hotel (Corona Opera Hotel). Went for walk to Galeries Lafayette, much warmer than London. Tried to find somewhere to eat, failed miserably. Had a wine then got take-away burgers, at "Quick", like a French McDonald's with English words on menu.... read more

Another acquiantance recommended that when you are in France, you need to see Versailles.. pronounced as "ver sigh"..i thought i was "ver sales".. I went to Versailles alone since my boss wanted to rest before going home to Manila. But, I was raring to go and see what was in Versailles. It was a short train trip from Paris to Versailles and 4 to 5 blocks walk from the station to the Chateau. The main attraction was the Chateau de Versailles. It was BIG!! You can see the photo here of the vast, well manicured garden of the chateau which I loved very much. I have started to love going to the museums and historical places these past days here in Europe. ... read more
