Here's a long update that covers a bout a week, Get comfortable and enjoy! I need to catch you all up on a few days. I think I last entered comments having just arrived in Gryon. I checked in for 1 night and w/in 5 minutes had extended it to 2. The girl working there had just finished her undergrad pre-med and was enrolled in med school. She had been there 3 months and was working on defering her enrollment for the next year to stay there. Bert runs the place, there are a group of flight attendents staying there, a bohemian type guy named bo, who had just finished highschool, but seemed much older. He and I went hiking and had a great time. There were also a pair of girls from Ireland, a guy ... read more

After arrived in Paris main train station from Brussels and then the d’Artagnan Hostel (luckily, we still got our reservations at the fully booked hostel), we took off around 8:30 pm for dinner around the Champs-Elysées, where the Eiffel Tower is. To get there, we need to transfer the Metro twice, and it took us more than an hour just to get to the area. Our hostel is located in the East Paris, and the Eiffel tower is, of course, on the west side of Paris. We were hoping to find an inexpensive restaurant around the area at this hour. First incident in Paris with a Chinese restaurant We arrived at Eiffel Tower base around ten, just enough to see the ten o’clock show with flashing lights for about ten minutes. After the show, we ended ... read more

I left the south on friday to head back to Paris, this time to see and stay with my dads cousin Ruth and her husband Christian. They were so great to be with.We ate Crepes for dinner the first night, that were SO good. I learned a lot about my dads family, which was really cool, since i only ever learn about moms family. Saturday we went to versilles. Woah. Talk about an extravagant building. Hall of mirrors is huge, like the whole thing. I cant get over the size and decadance of the whole thing. After seing the "house" the 3 of us walked through town, then got one of the best meals i have had all trip. It was a really simple white fleshed fish on a bed of veggies. no description will do ... read more

Today Ghislain took it easy and spent the morning at home, Tania was getting here from Amsterdam, so I went out to visit my 1st cousin once removed, Ruth, in St-Germain-en-Laye. I got there no problem thanks to really good directions and a short French lesson from Ghislain. (Un billete pour St Geremain en Laye si vous plait. merci) It was really cool to spend time with Ruth, she is really interesting, and we had great conversations about family, and even politics, especially concerning how the French view Americans. We ate a delicious and relaxing lunch before I headed back to Paris. Ghislain and I went all the way to the top of the Eiffel tower and spent lots of time taking photos! (between the two of us we took over 200 photos qt the Eiffel ... read more

I'm here! Spent yesterday walking around outside with a brief stop at the Louvre before it closed. Today I went to the Picasso museum with Caren. Soon we will be off to Lyon and maybe see Lauren an Rob there. Didn't get to go to Versailles because I got in too late yesterday but my short visit in Paris was nice anyway. I only wish I had gotten to take more pictures. The weather is very nice but warm. (Sorry about the spelling on the last one I was in a hurry)... read more

Started the morning with a delicious pan au chocolate. Ghislain and i headed out to the Champs Elysees (spelled right this time). Took lots of photos at the Arc de Triomphe, and watched the crazy traffic circling it. Then we walked down the Champs Elysees, cheching out stores and stuff. I saw a McLaren Mercedes F1 mad cool. Grabbing baguettes (even a simple cheese and tomato w/butter is good, and the butter wasn't greasy... much better than the British equivalent.) we headed to the Louve. We met up with my cousin Betsy and her posse for half and hour to visit and watch her friends float their sneakers in the fountains. The louve is HUGE. So Ghislain and i went to the Northern European paintings. Wow. Once you get into the late 15th and 16th centuries ... read more

Well I figured that after spending all morning waiting in line to get the passport mess fixed I had had my major problem for the trip and was home free. I was wrong. I spent until 1am waiting in the airport trying to get on a flight. The chances of me getting there today suck cause it's Friday. At this point I'm trying to get anywhere in Europe soon. ... read more

Today Ghislain and i headed out so i could see Paris. Since we couldn't get in yesterday, we went into Notre Dame today. Churches arent usually m thing, but this one was gorgeous , with amazing stained glass. We took a long walk past the Louve (we are going tomorow) and down towads the chant de lisse (i know that is spelled wrong). We ate lunch at a great cafe in the neighborhood where Ghislain used to work. We explored a historically jewish neighborhood on the way to the Jewish museum. The museum was set up well, focusing on Western and Central European Jews as well as contrasting Ashkanazi to Shephardic judaica. After that we saw a small exhibit on the Tour de France. We met up with Ghislain's girlfriend, who is really lovely and nice, ... read more
