July 15 - Paris - Wendy and I are starting to wind down, as she is leaving tomorrow to meet up with Ed and I take off the next day for friends and Dijon.

But today is one of the highlights of our trip, something we started working on just after getting our plane reservations, and that is lunch at the Jules Verne restaurant in the Eiffel Tower. This is a Michelin One-Star restaurant, so food and service are both guaranteed to be wonderful. The weather promises to be good, so we put on our dressier duds and head out on the Metro (yes….) for our engagement. We arrived on time and got in the queue, where they verify you have a reservation. We couldn’t believe that there were actually two families, that came up separately, thinking they could waltz in without rezzers. Once you are checked in, the dedicated elevator takes you to the second level of the Tower, about 125 meters above the ground. The elevator was a challenge for me, as it was glass, and wending its way through all the girders of the tower. But it was worth the angst. We were shown to our table

Look at all the little people on the ground!

We were given a lovely little gazpacho as a starter, served in a shot glass, and very good though not too spicy. Wendy opted for Foie Gras with fruit and Sauterne jelly, while I had a marinated artichoke with a lemon vinegrette. Our main courses were chicken with langoustines for Wendy and I took the sea bass with greens. All were wonderfully flavored, and Wendy’s faith in the French cooking chicken was restored. After the main course we changed places for a different perspective… For dessert Wendy had a Chocolate Tower, and I had the Baba au Armagnac. I was given two choices of Armagnac to pour over the baba. The waiter recommended thee 15 year old as opposed to the 10 year old bottle. Boy, did he pour! And then it was slathered with whipped cream. Coffee was accompanied by chocolate truffles, macarons and marshmallows. When we left, we were given each a little package of madelaines as a souvenir...nice touches, all the way around....

And so ended our experience with the Jules Verne. I highly recommend it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but make sure you get your reservations in early…

Last on Wendy’s shopping list was an Eiffel Tower, and we found a great one for her, though not the one I thought she should have gotten. But it does light up, and will bring a smile to everyone’s face for our next Bastille Day Celebration.
