Anyone who knows my sister will also know that before this trip she had racked up an impressive 9 visits to Disneyland - 7 Tokyo, 2 Paris!! Me, a very disappointing 1 !! Well now that count is 2 and Shani is finally into double figures.
Our three days at Disneyland Paris got off to a slightly rocky start when our first flight from Cardiff was cancelled due to there being something wrong with the plane -(a replacement plane was found-also with something wrong and also cancelled!!) This all caused a mild moment of panic when we thought we weren't going anywhere and a wait in a line to see if we could get another flight- as long as we left the same day on a plane with nothing wrong with it we were happy. Anyhow, we found another flight and after a nearly two hour taxi trip we left from Birmingham of all places!! At least it was direct.
Well Disneyland may seem like an odd choice of holiday for two childless gals in their mid 30's but it was the lure of the rollercoasters not Mickey Mouse that led us there- specifically the newly redone Space Mountain
2!! So early next morning with tickets in hand we arrived at the gates right on opening time ready to spend the day walking the entire Disneyland side of the park leaving Walt Disney Studios for the next day.
First stop? Space Mountain of course, we even managed to get on the very first ride for the day.
Last stop for the day?? Space Mountain of course, with me thinking afterwards that I was sure I had a concussion and we better go find a bar to sit down in as soon as possible..
In between? The entire 11 hours of opening time to get around the whole complex with rides on almost everything at least twice (Indiana Jones came in a close second in the ride count for the day) - except for a couple of the really little kiddie rides. There's something to be said about visiting a theme park outside of the school holiday peak. No lineups for anything. There was also the added excitement? of watching some sort of protest that moved around the park during the day. Not sure what it was about, it was all in French, and when we asked
Disney 2
Ready for our first rollercoaster of the day.. some staff they just said " Don't know, they are crazy people". They managed to disrupt the grand parade for the day but we weren't too fussed about missing that.
With very sore feet we finished day one with an evening at Billy Bob's Tex Mex - yes it was even more cheesy than it sounds and it came complete with a country rock n roll dance lesson to watch whilst eating - Now i can count to at least 8 in French!!
Day two at the Walt Disney Studios next door not quite as long thankfully as the park is only a fraction of the size but still heaps to do. Spent some time in a line waiting to see the early stunt show which ended up being cancelled due to the protesters from the day before (they took over the lot where the cars were being kept) but finally saw the show in the afternoon. And it was worth lining up twice for. Tried to include a video but the site won't let me upload it. I will keep trying though. Very inspiring to go out and get a fast car to do tricks with! -
Disney 3
Off to the 3D cinema (and Mum, you never heard me say that!)
Rest of the day was spent watching special effects films, animation demos, a visit to the Disney Channel, and of course, another rollercoaster. Not just any rollercoaster, the 'Rockin' rollercoaster.. This one belted out Aerosmith from speakers in all the seats whilst negotiating the track. Soooo much fun. We got on this at least five times including the last ride for the day after racing past the gate very near to closing time.
A trip to Paris just wouldn't be right without some girly shopping time as well and as it happens the Disney Parks are very close to the local designer outlet centre, which in turn is right next to an extremely large shopping centre!!
Day three - all day browsing the shops!! I won't go into any details, that would be extremely boring for most, but I will say that Shani spent way more than me, which wouldn't have been difficult since I ended the day buying nothing except lunch, and only coz i can't fit anything else into my pack!
Things I find disturbing chapter 7:
Well we did decide to go to one
Disney 4
Helping Buzz Lightyear defeat the bad guys..Yeah I know, but we all have to act like childrens sometimes.... of the most tourist orientated, commercial places on earth but I didn't expect the hotel to be charging 20 Euro for 1 hour on the internet. By today's conversion rate that's $33.75!!! Needless to say we didn't use it.
Have decided after day at the outlets that even if Armani cost only $10 instead of $1000 it's still ugly! No, I didn't buy any!
Yes, McDonald's definitely sell a 'Royale with cheese' here in France........instead of a quarter pounder..........you know, Pulp Fiction, the metric system, yada yada............
