We went to sleep watching the lights on the Eiffel tower from our hotel room. After breakfast we did a bit of laundry before we headed out for the day. We went to the closest Metro at Eco Militaire and bought us each 3 day Paris metro tickets. Then we jumped on and headed to the Musee d'Orsay, our favorite musee here. Jim had read that they have on display the original scaled model of the Statue of Liberty so we wanted to go see it. This is just a marvelous musee with a number of exhibits from Rodin to impressionists to contemporary, it is easy to get lost in the enjoyment of art here and time just melts with the day Just wonderful.
After we saw everything we wanted to enjoy at Musee d'Orsay, we took a cab to the Notre Dame Cathedral and took some photos but it was so crowded and the queue to go in was at least a football field length long. So we went to have lunch. Jim had crepes and I had mini entrees of tomato with mozzarella and fois GRAS with fig jam and a salad verte, (here, entrees are starters, thus
the entree to the meal).
We decided to take the metro and go to Montmarte and Sacre Couer Basilica which is the highest point in the city. Built between 1875 and 1914, from the front of the church you can see the whole city of Paris. Montmarte is also part of the high point and is where the artists have a square where they display and sell the art they create. Several years ago or so we fell in love with an artist Monsieur Docullet and we have have many paintings by him. He is getting quite elderly so we bought a couple more not knowing when we will get back here and if he will be alive when we do.
We wandered around and looked at all the other artists pieces. The artists each have a square of about 3 foot that is theirs. Jim saw an oil that he fell in love with but the artist wanted $2,500 euro! The longer you display in Montmarte the better the spot and that you have the rights to that same spot every day.
We were getting weary and decided to head back towards the 7th district where
we are staying. We stopped at the boulangerie on rue cler and each had a snack and went to the cafe across and got a coffee to enjoy with the snack. We returned to the hotel, napped and watched CNBC story about the murders at the movie theater in Aurora Colorado. How sad a situation.
At 8:30 we headed out for dinner. Tonight we decided to try a new restaurant just around the corner from our hotel that I read about and looked it up on Yelp. "Le 7eme Vin" is our new favorite restaurant in Paris and exceeds all other restaurants that we have ever eaten at. The restaurant is really quite small and probably only seats 25 or so total with 2 really nice guys managing the front of the house and 1 chef in the back. All the menus are on chalk boards that they bring to the table...so French! We shared an entree, salad with goat cheese and roasted pear. Jim ordered roasted scallops with vegetables and I ordered lamb chops in thyme sauce with vegetables. The flavors of each was just divine. We also enjoyed a carafe of a cote du Beaune red wine
that went well with both meals. We had to save room for dessert and coffee. They had a strawberry and raspberry tart with chantilly whipped cream that was fantastic. We MUST try and go back before we leave Monday!
We wandered around the corner to our hotel after 10:00 and immediately got ready for bed all the while discussing what a great day we had. What will we do tomorrow? We can decide in the morning. Bonne nuit.
