new haircut and amherst friends

So here's the other fun and exciting news in my now quite "regular" life in Paris. I decided to go get a haircut with my friend Danielle. We chose a little salon run by this wonderful character of a woman, already recommended to us by another friend. I'm very much enjoying the new look and am constantly tossing my hair about as only a woman with a brand new haircut can do.

It was great because it wasn't your run of the mill salon, but rather a funky little place where she'd also sell you purses with buttons, bags in the shape of corsets, or big fake jewelry. And besides her assistant, we were the youngest people there. Plus all the other customers were clearly regulars. 3 older women passed through while we were there, one for her weekly "brushing" one for her regular trim, and the third as much to chat as to get anything actually done to her hair. The most amusing was the old gentleman who came in the midst of all this to get his regular trim of what little hair he had left on his head. They were clearly friendly with each other because they were joking about washing his hair or washing his head and when the assistant asked if she should give him a shampoo, the owner woman teased that they'd have to give him a swimsuit, because most of his hair wasn't on his head. Then when he left the conversation turned back to classic woman chatter, "oh les jeunes filles" "when i was your age..." it was too fun.


Then that night I met up with some of my classmates from Amherst whom I'd hardly seen (if at all) since being here. Another very french bar, where we took a table in the "cave" with rough stone walls, a low ceiling, crooked steps leading down from the bar and low glowing light. Sadly, many of them are returning to Amherst next semester, so last night may be all I will have gotten to see of them here before what will be our senior year!!
