Our typical "owners" shot . . . Jeeves! We're home!

Josephine's Home

Having visited most of Paris' palaces and in recognition of Jennifer's interest in Joséphine de Beauharnais, second wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, we went to Reuil-Malmaison de visit the famous Malmaison. What spurred us on additionally was an exposition at the house of haberdashery and personal effects of royalty and aristocracy from the Napoleonic era to the 20th century. The house was not by any means impressive when compared to the palaces of Kings, but was interesting in that it reflected the living standards of French nobility for the period. Some of the rooms were quite impressive, especially Josephine's formal bedrrom which is an oval shape and made to look like a tent.

The exposition on the other hand was entirely impressive, the ornamentation and detail of the items was incredible and it is definitely worth the trip if in Paris. You will get to see what others don't typically see. Of course the challenge is getting to the house since even the RER station is a distance from it.

New Year's a Day Early

30th rather than the 31st with Bernard and Chantal taking us to the Crazy Horse Saloon for a show (hence the title of this post). We went to Chez Francis right next door for dinner, a classic French brasserie which happens to be on avenue George V and has a terrific view of the Eiffel Tower in all it's scintillating glory. It was a set menu and the food was good, although it would seem it survives thanks to Crazy Horse package business.

After dinner and 10-minute wait in line that in retrospect seemed to exist only to make this plce seem more exclusive, we were in. The room is actually quite intimate and we were seated in a long red velour banquette in the back left of the room but actually had a good view and good seats as some people sat in nosebleed seats that were literally in the main walkway at the rear. Every two people was given a complimentary bottle of Cordon Rouge Champagne, our table getting a magnum and a standard bottle with Axel, Laurie, and Jennifer pretty much handling the bottle on their own. The show itself was good and very tasteful with
