Wednesday We took the earliest train out of Heidelberg, which got us into Paris at about 10:30, a little later than I’d wished because of all we wanted to see on this trip. The king's desk, or secretarial, was built in 1769 and was the most expensive piece of furniture constructed for him. Under the desk is an original carpet.

The Apollo Room. This is where Louis XIV had his throne. However, his throne was one of the 17,000 pieces of furniture auctioned during the French Revolution.

Detail of the Hall of Mirrors. This is the largest room in the palace. There are 17 arcades of mirrors facing windows which look out over the extensive gardens. The Treaty of Versailles, which ended WWI, was signed here.
