atop the tower
Craig & Kellie at the top of the Eiffel Tower We arrived in the famous Ville De Paris, and were immediately stuck by its massive infrastructure and amount of traffic. The city did not look very beautiful as you initally drive in because its all modern/high residential etc.
Arriving at the campground we were confronted with our first drama - VISA WAS DOWN ...IN EUROPE!!! None of our Visa Debit or Credit cards would work - so we could not pay for our accomodation! Luckily we had paid a deposit for our first night so we were right till morning.
So our first night in the campground and we met a lovely Australian, AND a lovely british couple (and their 2 Labradors). Both that were very happy to part with info on what they were doing, how they were doing it, and what we should do whilst in Paris. Would you believe the Brit couple were here because the PARIS MARATHON was on, on the Sunday we were there and she was competing (note Sunday afternoon we noticed about 70% of the campers had left so must all have been here for the marathon.
So sitting have a glass of wine with the Brit couple we could
Our campsite
Our campsite in Paris see the Eifel Tower sparkling through the trees and decided we should go for a walk....geese louise. It was about 10.15pm when we set off, and craig had had about 5 strong rums (Kellie had not) - and we set off, Craig in Thongs!!! About an hour later we were still walking - one very very long Rue and trying to get around the MASSIVE park - in the day time there are beautiful walk ways through the park to get to the city centre more quickly but of course being pitch dark, Kellie didnt think that a good idea, so street after street weaving around the park we were going. Then we discovered the true meaning of ...PARIS BY NIGHT! - We turned a corner with sore blistered feet (well craigs was - he has worn a hole in his thongs) and saw a serious of young good looking twenty something men standing along the road, each about 3 metres apart, standing on their own on the side of the street - then we saw a cheap little car pull up with a man in it to talk to the young guy, then we saw a skantily dressed woman,
Parisian Meal
Our first meal in Paris - Steak with a nice Rum & Coke to wash it down then a transvestite - and we realised that we were walking along a strip of prostitutes - I mean, walking next to them, literally next to them, crossing the street we saw a man come out from behind something doing up his fly - it was all pretty revolting! So that was paris by night- we discovered that on the first night. That is the BEAUTIFUL CITY OF PARIS.
Walking on, there were more and more single twenty something men standing on the side of the road on there own - some of them looked like maybe rather than prostitutes they were dealers of drugs that people could drive up and do a buy?? We dont know but it freaked Kellie out.
So after 2 hours of walking we finally reached the Eifel Tower in time to see it sparkle at midnight - however this too was a revolting experience - there were masses of african men trying to flog off cheap eifel tower souveniers to tourists, and there was a massive gathering of Africans dancing to very loud bongos - and one who got up and stood on the edge of the look out and started screaming
Arch de Triumph
Kellie infront of the Arch out in french to everyong something about F the eifel tower was all I got. - then there was an african dude that came up and stood about 1 inch from the back of kellie and when she noticed got them to move to go sit on the step and 5 mins later he was there sitting on the step, and then she looked at him and he gave her a scary face - and then moved closer - obviously plotting to rob her. So we got up and left.
AARRRRRHHHHH ROMANTIC PARIS!!!!
the rest of the trip we used a 2 day museum pass, and a 2 day bus tour pass - and the bus was a great idea, jump on and off where ever you like, and it takes you to all the main attractions, and you sit on an open roof double decker bus, with earphones that tell you all about what you are driving past. FANTASTIC WAY TO SEE PARIS - a bit less walking. So we did that for two days, saw what we had to see, went up the eifel tower and ticked that off the to do list.
AND THAT
Kellie Arch
Kellie oin the top of the Arch WAS PARIS - see pics - but we dont have much else (nice) to say about it.
Paris would be beautiful if it had no parisians in it! - thank goodness for the aussies (and brits ) that we met.
