We had breakfast at the hotel this morning and then boarded our busses for the Paris tour. I got lots of pictures through the windows of the speeding bus. If I survive Paris traffic it will be a miracle! I thought places like San Francisco were crazy, but Paris has them beat. More about that later. We drove up the Champs Eleysee. I didn't realize it was the Rodeo Drive of Paris. Every high end store you could think of is along this boulevard. It is so iconic Paris with the buildings, wrought iron balconies. The guide said that it was intentional. When Napoleon came into power he wanted everything to look the same so there was a set architecture that everyone was required to maintain and so the buildings don't exceed a certain height are ... read more

Today was a lovely, lovely day – probably one of the best days I’ve had in a very long time. I had really forgotten how much I love Paris – but it all came back to me as we walked along the road from our hotel in Neuilly towards the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees. It didn’t hurt that it was a beautiful day – a bit cold for the girl who forgot her coat at home, but manageable in the sun. We walked a long way towards the Champs Elysees, and I was struck by just how beautiful Paris is. Sure, there is some modern architecture that mars the otherwise perfectly romantic landscape, but all in all, it is one of the, if not the most, beautiful cities I have ever been to. ... read more

Ah, Paris in the (almost) springtime. It’s only my second time in the city of lights, but I’d forgotten how much I love it. This morning was a bit brutal – we didn’t sleep much on the plane because of the strange seats we were in, and when we arrived at the hotel, they announced they didn’t have any rooms ready. They said they only had one woman to clean the whole hotel (it’s 29 rooms), and that nothing would be ready until 3pm – not great when you have an 8:15 dinner arrangement! But then, suddenly, she managed to find not one, but two empty, clean rooms. Odd. She took us as far as the door – and we had to walk through the very narrow dining room to get there – and said she ... read more
