Därefter några timmar i ... read more

Having known Louvre is one of the biggest museums in Paris, we decided to start early. We got up at 7 o’clock, had breakfast at 7:30, and left the hotel at 9 o’clock. There were already loads of people around the station and Pyramids entry. We managed to start looking round the Louvre at 9:45. We had planned looking at the most famous picture, i.e. portrait of Lisa Gherardini del Gioconda known as Mona Lisa. The famous portrait seems to have been moved from the old place to the room 6 of the first floor of Denon Wing. As expected, there was a huge crowds around the Mona Lisa’s painting. It was a relatively small portrait and was protected by doubled glaze windows. One of the most famous pictures in the world made Louvre extremely popular ... read more

Mark and my father hadn’t visited Paris, so I had planned visiting the major sightseeing places. We firstly travelled to Arc de Triomphe, one of Paris’ landmarks. As expected, millions of tourists were taking photos of the arch. Unfortunately, I dropped my father’s digital camera, while he was handing it to me, and it resulted damage to the camera. We went to the roundabout of the Arc de Triomphe, and got on the lift to the top. It was misty and cloudy in the morning on 22 June, but we were able to see the famous buildings, e.g. Eiffel Tower, Champs-Elysees, Musee du Louvre, Sacre-Coeur Temple, and skyscrapers in La Defence of Financial district. My father found it boring after getting his digital camera broken. My mother carried the guidebook of Paris and found the Japanese ... read more

And so we are well installed in our Marais apartment which we’ve found to be even more charming than in its website photos (if that is possible). Our welcome was made even warmer on the cool and drizzly Paris morning we arrived when we found that our host Hans had provided us with a most generous care package of fruit, milk, juice, brioche and jams, cheese and wine, Nespresso coffee maker plus capsules and all capped off with a miniature Eiffel Tower. The apartment absolutely ticks all the boxes – light and airy, on a quiet street, with a boulangerie a few doors down, and across from that a café (Les Temps du Cerise) with a zinc topped bar, the Seine at one end of the street, and the Rue San Antoine (with fruit shops, traiteurs, ... read more

This weekend was an amazing experience. I got to visit Paris! We climbed onto a bus to Dublin at 1am and finally made it to our hostel at 1pm. The hostel we were staying at was called Saint Christopher's Inn. The hostel had a bar and a nightclub on the lower floors. Sara, Sami and I had 2 roommates during our stay: Chris from England and another girl from our tour. The hostel was very nice. When we arrived, we met up with the group at a little cafe. It was my first authentic French food! The crepe was so good. We got to meet our tour guide for the weekend, Kevi. After lunch, we headed to the Moulin Rouge. Did you know that people will pay hundreds of dollars a plate just to have dinner ... read more

My Previous blog was wrong. Our group is full of beauties. Last night we threw on e collared shirts and hit the club in Paris. That shit got cray. I'm beginning to have a love hate relationship with Heineken. The Aussies currently hold the chugging/skulling belt. But it's early. Our tour manager bought us a 60 of vodka and was pouring it into our mouths in the bar By the end of the night I was the Alberta redneck two stepping Steve got attacked by a soft 3 :P Bkslizz was Bkslizz Brody and an Australian seemed to be pretty close. I actually haven't seen him yet today... Didn't get back until 445 Steve and I actually missed the alarm this morning... First day too. So yea... We had to discover Paris still drunk from the ... read more

After weeks of worrying whether we would be able to survive the heat of southern spain- (can easily reach 40 degrees in seville) we arrived to a rainy overcast day. First time so far i have had to wear a jacket! We had a free hostel breakfast! Bonus for the super budget travellers and headed out in the rain to explore. Seville had an amazing feel about it and was a quaint little town. Horses and carriages were all over the old part of the town.. though i am sure just for the tourists sake, but they took you back in time a little bit... that is until the tram whizzes by. After being in Morocco i noticed a big influence of the culture here, with the architecture and also the medina in the town. We ... read more

Bonjour from Paris! It is our last day here. We have had a fun time on Champs-Elysse, a riverboat cruise, the Eiffel tower, and Versailles. Paris is... interesting. The first thing we saw after getting off of the train was a well dressed man peeing on a wall. Nice. Clearly, London and Paris are not the same. Tomorrow, on to Amsterdam!... read more

CS: The early morning was again rainy but it lifted soon enough to a sparkling, sunny day. IJ and CS went for a walk, and whilst admiring one of the loveliest and most kemp gardens yet seen we met the owner and Capitaine of the port who glowed at our compliments. Having learned we are Australians he mentioned Wallis and Futuna (two minute French protectorate islands in the middle of the Pacific which coincidentally CS has visited in an earlier life). It transpired, we learned through several phrases of broken French, that his son had once been stationed there as a gendarme. It seemed however that that was all our fine captain knew about our hemisphere. Chevroches is the epitome of a charming little rural village in the classic French style. It contained discrete but interesting ... read more

CS: CS and PP made it comfortably to the airport Friday morning, braving heavy winds that had descended on Brisbane overnight. Check-in was predictably and straightforwardly slow and then we were tucked into a pleasant corner of the Qantas lounge for and hour or two. First leg to Singapore could have been better. The large noxious man in front of PP after having helped himself to the remaining exit row seat, reclined his seat, which appeared to be broken anyway, right into PP's face, where he left it pretty much the whole journey despite promptings from PP and every passing steward. This procedure tended to contradict one of CS's immutable laws (more about those later) in that she is usually the one who gets to sit behind the only jerk who takes advantage of maximum incline. ... read more
