Chantilly is outside of Paris zone 5 so our Navigo did not cover the train fare, but it cost only 8.70€ each way from the Gare de Nord station. Our museum Pass did cover the entrance fee to explore the château, stables and roam the very extensive gardens and forested pathways. When you arrive at Chantilly, the bus stop is about 50 yards down the street to the left as you exit the train station. It's a short, free ride through the small town and to the stop at the main entrance to the château. The Château de Chantilly is surrounded by water, gardens and a mix of statues and monuments. It was constructed between the 14th and 19th century for the Orgemont, Montmorency, Bourbon-Condé, and Orléans families. Razed to the ground during the Revolution, it ... read more

Chantilly is a sweet little town about a half hour out of Paris via a train out of Gard du Nord. The train ticket is 8 Euro each way. A taxi line awaits the train to take passengers to the moated, fairy tale castle at Chateau Chantilly. The chateau was seen in an old James Bond film, “A View to Kill.” Half of us took the cab (must preserve our tootsies and our energy) to the Chateau but walked back to town after our visit. The other half trekked up on a picturesque trail. Domaine de Chantille is made up of a Chateau, a park, and the Grand Stables. The Chateau houses an enormous library and magnificent art gallery. We skipped the actual house tour on the advice of travel writer Rick Steves who advised it ... read more

The Château de Chantilly is a historic château located in the town of Chantilly, France. It comprises two attached buildings; the Grand Château, destroyed during the French Revolution and rebuilt in the 1870s, and the Petit Château which was built around 1560 for Anne de Montmorency. Owned by the Institut de France, the château houses the Musée Condé which is one of the finest art galleries in France and is open to the public. The park, featuring extensive parterres and water features, was laid out principally by André Le Nôtre for the Grand Condé. It also contains a French landscape garden with a cascade, pavilions, and a small ornamental village which served as an inspiration for the Hameau de la reine of Marie Antoinette in the Gardens of Versailles. The estate overlooks the Chantilly Racecourse and ... read more
