An early start Saturday morning - 7:30am. Why? We were on our way to a vide-grenier (garage sale) at Gergy before having lunch at Chalon-sur-Saône. Neville drove a scenic route, which was beautiful, sojourning through quaint villages. Look, Madame! A brocante! Where? Stop! What a treat we were in for as Neville pulled to a stop opposite a church (complete with cemetery) at the village of Corberone. A hand written sign at the gate showed us the way in…we shall let the photos tell the story! Madame Smith came away happily with a mustard pot and a bigger pot (useful for something!) Neville found some glasses, while Mabel and Jan just marveled at the collections. But Neville, we still need to go to Gergy. A further drive along narrow roads, through more quaint villages, past wheat fields and vineyards and we arrived at Gergy. No signs for the grenier. Driving, looking, driving, looking…Perhaps they are not having it due to the 3 days of mourning for the tragedy in Nice. Driving around this larger picturesque town was delightful, but no sign of the grenier. We stopped by the river near the caravan park and oval where the grenier should be. Neville
Corberone
The village church and cemetery checked the details….it’s on tomorrow Madame! Dimanche (Sunday), not Samedi (Saturday)!
After much laughter, we continued on our journey to Chalon-Sur-Saône for a much needed coffee, meander through the town and lunch. This town has a beautiful square, surrounded by historic buildings. Mabel was in awe of the cathedral. The Saône flows majestically through the city. A poignant moment was when we saw the French flag flying half mast; makes one truly value our life.
Following our lunch (more delicious eats; just as well we are walking a lot!) we headed back towards Dijon, with some breathtaking diversions. This part of the Burgundy region is full of vineyards. We drove through Meursault, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée after the most wonder filled stop at Santenay. The photos
almost do justice to the stunning views. A further rest and stretch stop at Beaune, before returning to ‘Villa Pernot’, completed a spectacular day’s outing.

Funny story Jan but the trip wasn't wasted with such wonderful scenery! Poor Madame Smith, .....at least she found some treasures! So glad you are all safe and sound, terrible news from Nice.
