I was right about the nasty wind and it certainly made itself felt today. It must have been what blew last night’s mist in and left more cloud today than forecast. Not complaining you understand (as we believe the UK is not having good weather) and the sky is beautifully blue most of the time. It did mean we wore an extra layer for scootering today as out of the sun it really can feel quite cold. Poor Bob gets the full force of the chill on the scooter as he is on the front and I’m tucked in cosily behind. He also gets the bites from the insects which fly into him. We went to Locronan first. Again we have visited here before but it is one of the 'most beautiful villages of France' and ... read more

Glorious blue sky day. Kisbee all ready to go so, so were we. Must admit it was not quite as warm as I’d hoped when we set off towards the sea at Douarnenez (I've been spelling that wrong, sorry) at just after 10am and suspect it’s a couple of degrees colder here on the South Finistere north coast then it was on the south. Certainly a bit drafty as we scootered along and glad it was only 5 miles. Have a strong suspicion that that icy north wind which has plagued us in England this spring has found its way over here. Certainly a bit chilly if you’re not directly in the sun. We’ve visited Douarnanez before when we were staying at St Nics in September 2010 and liked it so a good place to revisit. ... read more

Moving on today. Not far to go, just across the Southern Finistere peninsula from south to north. We got off to a pretty poor start leaving Concarneau as we got stuck behind a wide load, carrying two holiday chalets and so big and long it was having difficulty manoeuvring round the not very big roundabouts. We followed it for several slow miles but we were in no hurry so not a problem and it pulled in to let us and all the other following traffic past at Fouesnant. We avoided Quimper and the dreaded dual carriageways which Clarissa is so fond of and headed for Pont-Croix then due north to just before Douaranez. Our campsite Camping de la Baie de Dourananez, 7 kms from the coast at Poullan sur mer (but it isn’t on the sea ... read more

Cannot believe the wonderful weather we are enjoying. Apart from a few showers in first couple of day it has been gloriously sunny. Weather forecasts suggest we should make the most of it so we are making hay….. Got the scooter out of the garage and headed south to Douarenez, 25 km away. Stopped first at Plomodiern to fill scooter with fuel. Bob filled it himself - then realised pump was not self-serve but scooter tank is tricky to fill and has to be done really slowly with me watching the pump and counting off in ¼ litres. We admired the little market in the centre of the town and the pretty church then carried on our way. Very pleasant drive with not much other traffic and a view to the sea most of the way. ... read more
