Without a grand historic cathedral, not much half-timbered houses like the others better known places in Brittany, Paimpol didn't attract mass number of tourist, still... the small town is tidy and easy to explore, beside the port area, the main sight is around the Quarter Latin the Place du Martray, every Tuesday morning when the weekly market run in full force and it would bring back live in this quiet town. Right in the center of the old town stood the old bell tower La Vieille Tour, that could date back to year 1550. Walk along the port further up north a little you will find the Tour de Kerroc'h on the mound overlooking the cove of Paimpol. And 14km west from Paimpol in Ploezal is a beautiful castle, 15th century La Roche Jagu by the ... read more

We were heading to a local beer brewery for a visit. The Philomenn building seat right by the River Jaudy once we cross the bridge. It is a small brewery. The brand was created by two brothers in 2007, the logo for the beer is an image of a woman wearing the tradition headdress call " Touken ", she was Marie-Louise, the great grandmother of the two brothers. The tour was simple and brief, with standard information about the company and their products, followed by a beer tasting section at the end. The beer ain't bad and quite a refresh in fact, each with its unique favour, I quite like the Tourbee that came with a touch of whisky taste. You couldn't find the beer in shop and market, they deal directly to the local pub ... read more

Borrowed the words from Wikipedia : "A Pardon is a typically Breton form of pilgrimage and one of the most traditional demonstrations of popular Catholicism in Brittany. Ploubazlanec on the Cote d'Armor was one of the places I looked forward to visiting purely because of its name and the towns you have to pass through to get there. PLOO-BAZ-LAN-ECK. PLOUBAZLANEC. On the way and surrounding are Le Cabaret, Pleudaniel, Squiffiec, Ploumagoar, Lezardrieux, Plouagat, Plouisy, Plouadis and Plouadat. Way to name your bourgs Bretons! Diving into the life of a bonvivant began with dinner at the Ferme du Kerroc'h. Nathalie was expecting a meal in ramshackle rural farmhouse. The ferme Kerroc'h however was a farm which had long ago been converted into a cosy local eatery and therefore wasn't set in a patchwork of fields but plonked on the side of the main road into town. We were not disappointed by our welcome. One host, one bar lady, one waitress: all in rolled into ... read more

Daph and I had a winter weekend in France. We boarded the Bretagne Friday night at 9pm with trepidation due to the high winds. A ferry had been cancelled the previous night. We finally set sail about 11.30pm. We'd already checked out our cabin on floor 2, possibly below water level. After a couple of Chardonnay we decided to call it a night and 'try' to get some sleep. The night wasn't too bad, a bit bumpy at times, but we both agreed that we must have got some sleep. So slightly bleary eyed, and after waiting for some time, we were allowed down to deck 5 to retrieve the car. Driving off the ferry was exciting and the weekend begun, although not quite light it was promising to be a calm day. We drove as ... read more
