Quite sad to leave our lovely site at Limeuil as we have really enjoyed our stay there. Found out later than the 2022 ACSI inspection has awarded them the best located site again and that is no surprise is it really is in a wonderful spot. Across the bridge from a beautiful village, access to two mighty rivers, the Vezere and the Dordogne and close to so many of the gorgeous villages of the Perigord region. Our drive was exceedingly scenic though the first part to get us out of the river valley was somewhat windy. Once away from there though we were on good, nearly always straight roads through lovely scenery. The further along we went the more scenic the route as we climbed up and over the Massif Central range with wonderful views across ... read more

Wednesday 6th July 2011 On today to the spa town of Vichy our route follows the RD906 north through the Parc Naturel Regional du Livradois Foret along the valley of the river Dore - a land of forestry and agriculture and a very pleasant drive. Vichy lies on the banks of the Allier River ( as does our campsite ) whose source is in the nearby Massif Central plateau a few miles to the south. Volcanic activity in the area is the direct cause of the many thermal springs that exist in and around Vichy and these have played a great part in its history. As early as 52 BC Roman settlers acknowledged the therapeutic value of the springs in the area. These were exploited in the centuries that followed such that by the end of ... read more

September 21st 2009: Today the weather was very good here, at Paris, the sun was shining and the birds were singing. Me and my friends then decided to go visit a famous place, and we choosed the Louvré Museum. That place is amazing, you wouldnt believe how many art objects are there! We spent a lot of time there and when we left it was over 4 p.m. Later on we decided to visit eiffel tower, the sky was clean, it was a beautiful night, and it was a terrific scene. The tower was nicely bright and beautiful. I really enjoyed visiting Paris at my vacations, and I hope to get back there someday.... read more

So, big news...okay, not that big, but important none the less. Yesterday afternoon, I participated in my first official Rugby match, and then my second and third as well. My team travelled all the way to Vichy to participate in a four team tournament...which we took third in. Yes, we only won one of our three games...but it's not the end of the world. It was a good time, and it was even more fun singing "We are the Champions" in with a french team in our locker room after our only win. (Yes, even in France everyone knows the words to at least one Queen song.) I'm happy to say that I even scored a try! (It's like a touchdown but not.) Sorry that I don't have any pictures to post with this, but I ... read more

Hi everyone, I just writing update, because it's been along time. Everything has been a bit busyand a little hectic with school starting, exams (already!!!) and travel planning (I'm thinking Lyon, Budapest, etc). The weather is wonderful - sunny, and beautiful 15°C everyday! I have been eating French foods - cheeses, wines and pork, pork, pork! Anyways, I should have new photos and new adventures to write about in depth soon. All my love, Madison... read more

So this is a photo update, I know, there have been a lot but I have been occupied with these photos for a lllllllooooonnngggg time. I have dedicated upwards of 60 hours to trying to get these photos up, and they are coming along. A few notes on the Morocco photos: 1) Photos are courtesy of me (of course), but also Ludo, Kouider, and Antoine from the trip. 2) Some how the photos from Marrakech ended up in the Agadir entry, and vice versa. 3) Note that there is some graphic content in the photos of Marrakech, in the Agadir entry, due to Eid and photos of the feast! Here in Vichy, it has become quite cold, snowy and icy, though I know I will get no sympathy because it was 17°C up until a week ... read more

Music has been the fabric that binds my trip abroad in a beautiful mosaic. Anyone over here will tell you I can't function without my ipod, and on a mild and rainy day in Vichy, it provides the necessary colour to my life. I have been listening to the Counting Crows for the last couple days, and I have been loving it. Thanks to Ludo, I've also been listening to A LOT of house music, which is great, but starting to force me into a Dave Matthews mood. When I arrive in a new country, or when I'm in an airport, I like to listen to the Rolling Stones or the Tragically hip. When I am reading, I like Norah Jones, Supertramp or Barefoot. When I need a pick me up, I crank up the Dandy ... read more

I was listening to that song the other day, while making up my Christmas cards. I haven't been writing here, i know, but I have been very busy. Last week I moved to my new apartment in Vieux Vichy. I had a successful fundraising event for a group called SIDAction (AIDS awareness week). And, as it is the end of term, Ive had tons of school work, group meetings, etc. I also had some friendship issues, but I will not get into that. I guess, I wil make some more updates: it is my last week of class (starting tomorrow) and after that I have exams and finish on the 15th of December. This weekend, I will travel to Lyon for the Fete des Lumieres, to celebrate the turning on of the Christmas lights with IBF ... read more

For those who have never taken one of the numerous trains in France, or for that matter Western Europe, the experience can be very difficult to explain, but I have wanted to try for some time and here it goes. I have now taken the train from Vichy into Clermont Ferrandmany times, and yet I still find myself captivated by the emerald-green rolling fields, the dense, dark forests, and the dots of white painted by sheep and cows that one passes in the 35 minute trip. There is the long tunnel, rounded and mossy, and chateaus and silent ponds. One could argue though, that there isn't much on paper that could make this journey any more memorable than one in Canada, yet I am not alone in loving it. Ten minutes out of town, the silhouettes ... read more
