Actual ALARM this morning (08.00), but didn't matter as we woke before it.
We'd promised to meet a friend for lunch, just outside Brive, and even on toll roads it was going to take well over 2 hours - maybe longer as it was foggy when we set off, which would slow us down a lot.
However, it cleared after a while, to give us bright sunshine.
Quick stops to top up diesel, gas and caffeine (in reverse order) but otherwise just sailed along excellent roads all morning. 10€ toll for the bit of the A62, made us wonder what we'd have to pay for the much longer (150km) stretch of the A20! But as we came to the toll booth, we were flagged down by guys in hi-vis - "gilet jaune" protestors - who'd taken over and declared it "gratuit aujourd'hui!"
Lovely lunch at our friend's local - set "menu du jour," soup, entrée, main, dessert, and coffee, with wine, for 13€50! So eating out CAN be cheap in France - just not by the sea!
After a look around our friend's house and grounds, we said our goodbyes and set off for our overnight, at Azerat, half an hour away. Quiet little village, with a 3€ honesty box for the aire!
Met an Austrian guy, who was making his way home because his dad was very ill. We chatted with him and prayed for him. Turned out he's a leather worker, and had some of his merchandise with him, so guess what? Elizabeth bought a handbag! Who expected THAT?
3528km now, so 273 today! Need to check if that's our longest drive so far.
