It felt like just any other Friday at the end of a long and tiring week, only this time, I didn't have lessons in the morning and I'd been called in to help the Maternelle ALL DAY. Imagine my excitement. Ok, so it wasn't that bad and it was my last day working at the school and there was quite an exciting and buzzing atmosphere as preparations for the school party got underway. The school party was, I'd understood to be a much anticipated event of the school year and high expectations were built up around it as well as great pressure. I looked forward to it with excitement but also sceptisim, wondering if it would be all that it was hyped up to be. Like I said, my day with la maternelle just felt like ... read more

Only two weeks left of school but I don't think it's really sunk in yet. I think my announcement yesterday that I only have one month left here in Alsace quite shocked Laetitia, hitting her (and me) with a realization of how quickly the time has gone. Last Friday I had my last lesson with the 4eme - I allowed them to bring crisps and sweets to snack on during the lesson but I felt a bit sheepish when the President of the school board walked through the class on his way to the office, wishing us a 'Bon Appetit' - I hope he doesn't think we stuff our faces like that every lesson! Sometimes when I stop long enough to think about it, it shocks me to think that this life which I've become so ... read more

It's crazy to think that when I began this year, I was bored out of my mind but now my weeks are jam-packed with things to do:lessons to prepare and teach, people to meet, social activities to enjoy etc! I just thank God that it wasn't like this from the very beginning - I've had nearly a month of it and I'm exhausted and more than ready for a holiday! God really couldn't have allowed things to happen better and I smile to myself, knowing that He knew how busy I would be by the end of the year and how much I would need a holiday, despite my idea to begin with to have more of a 'working holiday'. I thought it would be time-wasting to spend a couple of weeks of my summer break sitting on ... read more

It has been another ordinary and pleasant week but I fear that if I go into all the details I will bore you dear readers, so I will do my best to include only the 'interesting' stuff. After holidays and bank holidays (they seem to have a lot in France) I have finally managed to have a full 'working week'; that is to say both my Monday and Friday classes. And life with children is rarely dull, as I have been reminded this week; challenging and amusing, yes but NEVER dull. It is Monday afternoon and I am on sieste duty with the little ones as usual: I have four 4-5 year old boys to manage - Florian, Joas, Elian and Josias. We start by making a trip to the toilet (I tend to leave them ... read more

The day after the birth I joined the family on an exclusive trip to the hospital to visit mother and baby. Cedric bought Laetitia an amazing boquet of flowers which I was rather envious of and wondered to myself if my future husband will be quite so affectionate and romantic as that. Anais, as the excited and proud big sister, made sure that she got first hold of the baby when we arrived. I sat down next to her to admire the tiny form in her arms. I wasn't expecting Anais to suddenly turn to me and offer the baby into my nervous 19-year-old arms, which have no experience of baby holding (Anais on the other hand seems quite a pro). I took the tiny baby hesitantly and once safely cradled in my arms, I stared ... read more

I had told myself that the Easter holidays would be used for getting out, exploring and actually doing something rather than staying in the rural, dull and secluded world of Rimlishof. It's funny how quickly we forget the Proverbs which says "We can make plans in our mind but it's the Lord who decides what we shall do." God had clearly decided that I would be staying in the rural, dull and secluded world of Rimlishof and on top of that, I would undertake fille-au pair duties. What fun..... As Laetitia was still pregnant when I got back from Switzerland, we waited still for the arrival of the new baby. And we waited.....and waited.....in the meantime Laetitia was back and forwards to the hospital and the midwife. On Friday, I spent a stressful hour or two ... read more

I wasn't sure if I was going to go to church on Sunday - sometimes the temptation of a long ly-in and a lazy morning is just too much (even for a 'good Christian girl' like me). But seeing as it was Easter and Jesus had risen from the dead, I did think I ought to make an effort. When I arrived at church, I was slightly surprised to notice that not many people had made the same decision I had and the room rested only half full. But seeing as there weren't many youth there, I got the privilege of sitting in the youth corner - perhaps God was rewarding me for making an effort to go to church that morning (despite the bitter cold temperatures and snow showers - in April!) Another little reward ... read more

My day of work on Friday involved helping the class of 3eme translate their projects on Persecuted Christians - the information for which, they'd taken from Google and Wikipedia so translating the language wasn't exactly easy. I mean, how am I supposed to be able to translate the population density per km2 of China from French into English? And Northen Korea's mineral rocks? Me and Daniele spent the lesson pouring over her giant-sized dictionary and searching on the internet to help us with the translation, all the time puffing and groaning and rolling our eyes at the task before us. A total of 6-7 projects all to be translated by next week. Not fun. Then there's the sponsored race being held next Thursday in aid of Open Doors. On monitoring duty with Lydie and Daniele at ... read more

Not much to blog about today - life in France is still as rich (meaning it's full of great and difficult moments), enjoyable (meaning I love it 99% of the time - the other 1% of the time I'm thinking of the food back home or English tv) and beautiful (meaning it hardly ever rains but more importantly, that I wouldn't want to be anywhere else). I am so lucky to be here, doing what I'm doing and gaining the experiences that I'm gaining - it's taken me a long time to realize just how incredibly lucky I am. The more time passes the more I think of how sad it will be to leave this life - but I'm sure God's got great stuff in store for me after this year is up. In fact, I ... read more

Seriously, how amazing IS God?! He promises us victory and you know what? He ALWAYS delivers on that promise! It's not even something we have to worry about because it's a 100% GUARANTEED PROMISE! Ok,I know it can be hard sometimes to get that into our heart when we're facing a problem or a big challenge, the exact position I found myself in tonight before sharing my testimony,in French,in front of the whole church! But I needn't have worried or stressed at all. It was ABSOLUTELY amazing - not only was I able to get up there confidently (wobbling a bit on the inside to begin with),get my words out properly and not faint in front of all the people looking at me, I was actually able to enjoy myself and be at peace - God's peace ... read more
