Helsinki
Pigeons are univeral Helsinki.
Caught a hop on and hop off tourist bus - did a bit of retail therapy - had lunch in a market place - there was a band playing in the park in the rotunda - think it may have been a naval band as they were all in smart white and navy blue uniforms. Not a lot to see there but enjoyed it all the same and did heaps of walking - John got us lost once...... so more walking....
Came back to the ship for dinner and another show - after a power nap of course.
Nynashamn - Sweden
We chose not to go on to Stockholm and just have a look around at the local town - given the limited time in Stockholm. We weren't able to dock in at Nynashamn and were ferried across by tender - which means using the smaller boats which are also the life boats - to get from the ship to Port. This town was a lovely small place and was well known as spa town prior to World War 1 - am sure you knew that now didn't you? It is also known for being one
of the places on the Swedish mainland from where ferries to the island Gotland, depart - several cruise ships on tours to the Baltic Sea stay in the harbor. Well as you'd expect we spent a small fortune doing some retail therapy..... as you do.
The boys wandered around the town, sat at the town square fountain and talked to the locals... am sure they were just sussing out where we could shop but we have to be selective as we do have a luggage limit...
The people there were charming and very and helpful - unlike WHAAAAAATT!!
On arrival back on board we had to go and see the Immigration Inspection people to have our passports stamped - we thought they were the police interviewing people.... they were really chatty with us and asked where we were from etc - am so glad we got there before most people got back from Stockholm etc..... the queues here can be horrendous.
Eventually we walked back with our goodies back to the ship, relaxed for awhile, played Canasta for a couple of hours (Girls V Boys at one all), dinner, then to the 'An evening with Celine
Helsinki
Girl gardeners - John says better looking than the Qld council ones Dion' - she was very good and said she was an impostor who had won the best Celine Dion impersonator on a British TV show.
Wait there's more to the day - the show finished around 10.30pm and then there was the CHOCOHOLIC BUFFET! What a way to finish the day. The massive dining room on Level 5 was - damn it - chockabloc, and we were there straight after the show! As it turned out we were one group of the early bunch because when we left there were 2 queues of around 50 metres or so waiting in line to get in. Remember this was around 11pm last night.
Over the last few days we have been through 5 different time zones!! We're at sea now for 2 days and then back to Dover, Heathrow & onto Ireland. I am sure I will find some more stuff to write on these 2 days - watch this space. After all lookee below so am certain we won't be bored!
I haven't yet mentioned a lot of stuff they have on this cruise but just a few things to do or know when on board etc - there are 16 restaurants - only 4 of these have a minimal cover charge - the rest are in the price of the cruise, there are several pools and jacuzzis, sun lounges, Mandara Spa & Salon, Hairdressers, Medical Centre, Galleria (shops to the uninitiated), Art auctions, Library, internet cafes, Room Service, Ice cream bars, Sports Bar, Casino, Jazz Bar, Tapas Bar, Napkin folding sessions - sounds boring but on passing through they were having a great time, Sales of brand name watches and jewellery, Pilates courses, Professional Photo studios, Body Waves Gym, Stardust Theatre, Kids Corner, Atrium, Sports Court, Columbian Emeralds International, Dazzles Disco, Chapel, Havana Club and so much more and of course there are heaps of entertainment and activities all day long - you could live on board!!
