Hello everybody, While I was in Tallinn I decided to take a ferry to Helsinki, Finland. It wasn’t originally planned, but I thought about it when I was in Tallinn and I immediately contacted Kati, a Finnish girl I travelled with in Western Australia back in 2008. On a Saturday morning I took the ferry early in the morning, it departed at 7:30 and arrived in Helsinki 2 hours later and I stayed there the whole day. I took the return ferry late in the evening which brought me back to Tallinn at 00:30. Helsinki is the capital and largest city of Finland with just over 1 million inhabitants. Things have been quite well and very steady so I have been able to catch up on relaxation. Ive picked up some hobbies here like singing in the Mieslaulaiet. Which is an all mens chorus. And the conductor is willing to give me vocal lessons as well. She studies at the Sibelius Music Academy, which is the most prestigious music school in all of finland. Ive also started playing tennis for the tennis club and the two girls in my group for training are the best in Tuusula. Ive been playing tremendously well! And going to the gym with my friend Pete has been one of the most fun things to do. Nothing feels better than leaving school when we have no classes and just pumping iron. Today I had my first club meeting in Helsinki today! The club president gave me a ride from Tuusula to Pasila in a quite nice restaurant and I met all the other Rotarians. They welcomed me warmly and are very nice. I met my club counselor as well today and she gave me some veru good advice about learning finnish and I have applied it so. Today was my first day of finnish school. and i have to say, it is so very very different! I can't believe how loud it could be in the classroom. Well I had an hour long day at school and picked my classes for tomorrow. Ill include them to be: Russian Finnish English Math Music Sports and I think that is it..... Oh well. Made it after a grueling 28 hours of flying and with no sleep at all! Im resting with the exchange students in the lobby of Helsinki Vantaa airport. This is going to be a short entry, made friends with the brazilians and we have to wait many hours to get to Karkku. Im really tired, and so goodnight.... read more
