Hello everybody! I know it has been a while, but i will write up a large entry today. I have been doing quite a lot lately. I mostly have been spending time with friends and family, but then there are a few special occasions that have occurred. Like the Finnish prom or Wanhojen Tanssit. It is a long time Finnish tradition where all of the 2nd grade high schoolers move up into the graduating class. Then after the dance we went to a very famous Finnish restaurant and ate some good food. My finnish is getting very good. I can pretty much speak it fluently with anybody I see. Hello Rotary club of Carlsbad! I want to let you guys know that I am doing very well! School is going very well and I have made many friends. I am going to a gym with my new best friend and we love working out and going to sauna every day is just amazing. My host family is all very nice and they make me feel right at home. Finnish is coming along and I can speak quite good for the amount of time studying it. I am so grateful to you guys and Rotary International for letting this happen. These past days have been so indescribably fun! Last Saturday, all of the Helsinki region Rotary members all met up for a meeting and we toured the city. It was so gorgeous and I did take lots of pictures! Ate some very scrumptious food and saw a ballroom dance like I will be attending. Then after that awesome day with all of my exchange student friends, I went to the movies with my best Finnish friend and saw a funny movie which made that day perfect. School exam week is coming up and I can't wait to take my two exams! Next session Im taking a harder math course. Today was sauna day which is the best day of the week for me. Things have been quite well and very steady so I have been able to catch up on relaxation. Ive picked up some hobbies here like singing in the Mieslaulaiet. Which is an all mens chorus. And the conductor is willing to give me vocal lessons as well. She studies at the Sibelius Music Academy, which is the most prestigious music school in all of finland. Ive also started playing tennis for the tennis club and the two girls in my group for training are the best in Tuusula. Ive been playing tremendously well! And going to the gym with my friend Pete has been one of the most fun things to do. Nothing feels better than leaving school when we have no classes and just pumping iron. Tennis, Golf, And Sweets Oh My!

This past week has been awesome! First thing is i played tennis with a professional coach and he fixed a lot of things in just an instant. He is now going to play in the senior world championships in Austria. Then in the next day Lasse took me out to the driving range and taught me how to swing a club. He knows a proffesional golfer as well who plays at the course and asked him if he would help me with my form and he sure was a big help. I couldnt believe that I got help from a professional golfer. First Club Meeting! And Headache...

Today I had my first club meeting in Helsinki today! The club president gave me a ride from Tuusula to Pasila in a quite nice restaurant and I met all the other Rotarians. They welcomed me warmly and are very nice. I met my club counselor as well today and she gave me some veru good advice about learning finnish and I have applied it so. Today was my first day of finnish school. and i have to say, it is so very very different! I can't believe how loud it could be in the classroom. Well I had an hour long day at school and picked my classes for tomorrow. Ill include them to be: Russian Finnish English Math Music Sports and I think that is it..... Oh well. Im finally here in Tuusula, Finland and everything is so nice here. My host family is absolutely lovely and they have made this such a warm welcome to me. Finnish is getting better, Ive been learning much, but sometimes it is very hard to remember what a word was or such and such. Today we are riding bikes to the school so i can learn how to get there. I have eaten some very good and quite filling finnish food here as well. I walked in the house greeted by home made gifts and some very yummy smoked salmon or Lohi. Well better get on with the day!
