Today I joined a 3rd grader (seniors) field trip to Helsinki. I went to school early at 8:45 and tuned in my 5 euros to Monika (our teacher). I got on bus number two, and followed the group to the back of the bus. I had two seats to my self! Woo! I was sitting in front of Jere, and behind Daniel (two of my three third year friends). It was a 3 hours bus ride, but I had my ipod, and they served us some sandwhiches half way through. When we finally arrived I walked around a while with Daniel and some of his friends. We went into this huge "hair stuff" shop, with TONS of colorful hair ties and clips. It was a very very gaudi shop, but it was fun. Then we headed back towards where the busses were parked near the Helsinki Parliment house! We gathered outside the building and Monika broke us up into two groups of 25. When my groups walked in we had to take off our coats, hats, gloves and scarves, and leave our purses, cell phones and basically everything but our cameras, in small lockers. Then we were sent into a small

autotorium where we watched a short video on the Finnish parliment. When it finished we all lined up in front of the metal detectors, where a woman dressed in an expensive business suit gave us each a sticker on our sholder, then sent us through the detector. I was standing in front of Jonas, and he helped me get through because the man kept saying things to me in finnish! We were guided through many rooms, and big elligant hallways, and into the main hall. It was gourgeous. It was big, and had a domed cealing that was gold and made out of sugar cane!!! Our tour guide (who looked exactly like Nora Sego) talked a lot about the room, then an actually parliment member came and talked for a couple hours about what his job is and what it is like to work there. It was in finnish, but i understood some of it. After everyone was going to go to the Kiasma museum for a couple of hours, but Monika said I could go sightseeing if I promised to make it back to the busses by 5:00. I looked around Kiasma for a few minutes, then went outside.
these are ALL headbands. can you believe it? ahh! i want them ALL!!!
I had called Nick that morning and he was already planning to meet up with me, so we planned on meeting outside Stockmann. As I was about to walk across a crosswalk towards stockmann, I noticed this guy standing next to me. He was a foreign exchange student from Brasil with Rotary!!! I turned around and he say me and I just asked "are you from rotary?" and he started laughing and gave me a hug and we walked across the street together, where we found Steven, a Canadian with rotary too! Steven had come down to visit Chiago (brasilian) and now I was randomly with them. AND they were planning on meeting Nick later, so we all just stayed together, and Rachel (american) and met up with us too. It was crazy coincidence, but it was awesome! Nick got lost looking for stockmanns, so we were waiting outside for a while talking and people watching. We say a gypsy and I took a picture. Then we finally met up with Nick and headed to Steven's hotel because he needed his bags for his sleepover at Chiago's host house. At the hotel there was one of those rooms for lounging
with free drinks and snacks, so we hung out there for a while then walked to the metro, and took it to Chiago's flat up town! We hung out there, looking at pictures and laughing...a lot, then we went out searching for a kebab place, and Chiago helped me find the metro station. I left the other exchangies 😞 and took the metro back to Kiasma and met everyone from school back at the buses. On the way home on the bus we sat in our same seats, but my ipod ran out of batteries, so I tried to sleep for a while but Jere woke me up by putting his face in front of mine and saying "are you asleep". I woke up laughing, so that was good, then everyone started playing these games where you like name every animal starting with the letter "s", or every brand of car. I think they were just extremely bored but it was pretty funny to listen to. Jere and I talked for a couple hours on the ride home and he said he would take me skiing in Turku where they have boxes for tricks, and a half pipe!!! yay! We
got back to school around 8:30 and I walked home and went to sleep!!!
