Tune of the Trip - Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah
This was the 7th Country of the year so far a trip to Tampere and no not with the kids! (lol an old Gary Glitter joke) this time it was three of us me , and Daniel and then Olga Daniels girlfriend who flew over from Latvia on Friday night.
Daniel and I started at 3am I picked him up from his house then drove to Stanstead Airport got parked up then got to check in , The flight was pretty full and was surprised how busy the airport was , but probably because its been so long if ever that I have flown out on a Friday, we got on the plane and after a short delay headed of to country number Seven for the year Finland and Tampere , we arrived after a good flight and where pleased to see snow everywhere the temperature around -2 , the landing was ok after Milan (6th Jan) im ok with snowy landings now,,lol , Daniels bag was the first out
but mine was one of the last , bloody tipical !!.
we found out the only way from the airport o Tampere was the Ryanair coach not a local bus , i said as a joke lets hire a car instead and drive about then drive to Helsinki tommorrow , after adding up all the fares we would need Daniel said ok lets do it, I wish i kept my mouth shut as i was the only one with a driving Licence and hate driving in the snow especially if they drive on the wrong side of the road !! , (was Finland ruled by Napolen ? thought only countries he once ruled in Europe drove on the wrong side , may be not sure been a long time since I was at school now).
Anyway we hired the car I was bricking it as have about 5 miles foreign driving experience in France on a booze cruise years ago , after getting comfortable with the car we headed of Slowly, and headed into Tampere , one thing I noticed was thankfully the roads where really quiet which was good Tampere was about 10km away from the airport so we
where soon there , Daniel directed us strait to the hotel , which I was impressed with, he said he had been to Tampere before , but I know I wouldn’t be able to find places I had been to, we arrived at the hotel and I had my first near miss, lol, nearly hitting a parked car , my bearings where all over the place with the steering wheel on the wrong side!
We parked up and checked in, then where shown to our rooms,
They where right buy the restaurant which was quite funny, had to make sure I was fully dressed if I left my room, lol,
got in the room and was well impressed it was the best room I had stayed in before, normally having slummed it , this hotel had the works , 30inc flat screen TV, Double bed, Mini Bar , Trouser press , Kettle , Iron + Board , and an impressive b-day !!!! , to me this was luxery, lol.
we had 20mins in our rooms then went out around Tampere , had a quick look around but there was not much to see had a few pics , and then
the tradisonal McDonalds ,lol, I had a record 4 cheese burgers !! we spent about 90 mins looking around then went back to the hotel, as we wanted to go to a place called Nokia , after another nervous drive and getting lost a few times we arrived at Nokia , Again it was similar to Tampere not to much to see but worth a look around, driving in I had noticed all the lakes where frozen solid and thought I would like a few pics by one as its not everyday you see it , we found a car park at a large cemetery with the river on the other side of the duel carriageway, we looked around where the cemetery was as there was a nice church and interesting stuff , part of the graves where from World war 2, we then headed across to the river , the road was easy to cross not much traffic the problem was a big slope down and about a foot of snow all the way , I found some old footsteps and decided to use them as stepping stones , Daniel lead the way video tapping the view, and me
falling over on the slope, which is on the video above !!, we made it to the river and I was the first one top brave it out on to the ice a great experience , I tried to build a large snow man but the snow was very dry and it fell apart , we carried on walking about then had a rest on a pier ,and watched some skiers skiing across the river, we headed back to the car as where freezing and then drove to a football ground had a look around it then headed to a viewing pier in Pyynikki, where you could see across Tampere which was very nice after a while we headed back to the hotel to dry off and warm up, it was about 6pm when we got back , I had an hours rest then it was another drive to the air port to pick up Olga from her flight from Latvia, While Daniel was in the airport the song he kept going on about came on the radio Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah the old Eurovision one, he was upset he missed it, lol, after Olga arrived we went back
to the hotel and decided to have dinner, we sat in the hotel restaurant got given a menu but after about 30 mins of the waitress just cleaning and not serving us we thought bugger this and headed off out into town to find another place , coming across a restaurant called Coyote it was pretty good so stopped for dinner after a good meal we, wandered back to the hotel as it had been a long day and we all needed a sleep especially as I wanted a all nighter at la Rocca in Latvia tomorrow night !!, we where wandering back when we came across a drunk tramp , Daniel video taped him as he staggered across the pavement, lol , we got back to the hotel where I watched a bit of Finish TV and had a pint I had bought earlier before having an early night as it was an early start tomorrow to Helsinki,
