TALLINN
Clock on old church, clock built in 12th century and still working, notice the Roman numerals We had booked private guide to meet at the Information Centre in the middle of the old town at 10.00a.m. Met up with Ariel, such a lovely girl, just the two of us and off we went! Covered so much ground in the two hours we had with her it as fantastic! She is a uni graduate majoring in language and psychology, and as she said that now qualifies her for unemployment but she is lucky to have this job as a tour guide!!! 21 years old and what what a joy she was! Old town of Tallinn is a walled city perched up high overlooking the sea and surrounding areas. Showed us over the upper town and lower town, lots and lots of walking, she showed us a few extra sites as she said we were good walkers, the group she had yesterday didn't see half what we did in over 3 hours so we felt pleased we could get around so much. These poor Estonian people have been through so much, with the bloody Germans and then the Russians, not getting rid of Russian rule until 1994, my god that is so recent! Estonia is now in the European
TALLINN
Outside the walled old town, their city square Union since the late 1990's and they said thank god for that, that's where they get all their money, that just doesn't make sense to me and probably why England want to get out, because they are supporting all these deadbeat countries who can't afford to support themselves! Ariel says they have free university and good medical care and she seems very happy. Can you believe she has a little 11 year old brother called Eric, she said in keeping with the Little Mermaid theme her parents have adopted! There is a lot of old and new in Estonia, big modern monuments that have been constructed for millions of Euros and then the very old buildings that look like they need a lot of tender loving care! Anyway we had a fabulous tour of Tallinn and enjoyed this medieval town very much! Finished off in a pub (of course) a couple of litres of beer and a wonderful antipasto plate! Rained all the way back to the boat. Lovely sail out of Tallinn.
